Road safety in southern Africa.
A source of competitive advantage.
• Port of Walvis Bay and its corridor members are strategically located to
give Namibia a competitive position in providing the best transport to link
regional and international trades.
• The Walvis Bay Corridor refers to a network of roads and railways linking
different countries to the Port of Walvis Bay.
• It includes a stretch of the Trans-Kalahari road and Walvis Bay-Ndola-
Lubumbashi Development road ex. Trans-Caprivi Corridor, renamed after
the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Zambia joined the group.
• The Trans-Cunene-Corridor is a road network stretching from the port of
Walvis Bay via Otjiwarongo, Oshivelo and Oshikango into Angola.

Road traffic research in Windhoek Namibia
- an indicator of how lax is traffic law adherence.
• Some 6162 vehicles monitored:
3633 privately owned, 1407 taxis, 911 commercial, 211 government.
• We observed that 25% of the drivers did not have their seatbelts on,
26% drove while on phones, 10% drove through red traffic lights,
43% failed to indicate when intending to turn, 9% made
unnecessary turns and 47% strayed beyond the stop line.
• Drivers were asked if they have ever violated traffic rules, 80% said
yes and 20% said no.
• Our research showed private drivers are the worst drivers followed
by taxis.

at the university to ensure that students graduate adequately
prepared.
• Most 78% indicated that their jobs were related to their
studies.
• When asked to appraise their first job experience, the
majority(58%) indicated that it was unfavo urable .
• The vast majority 89% agreed that the university prepared
them adequately for jobs in the T&L sector.
• Amongst the participants, 64% were female and 36% male.
