The Time of Enlightenment Angelica Kauffmann  Cornelia, Pointing To Her Children As Her Treasures 1785 Oil On Canvas  During this time of Neoclassicism, women overcame many obstacles & where seen in a different light as they showed their artistic abilities.
American Architecture Monticello. Charlottesville, Va.1793-1806. American architecture received international stature for the first time when  architect Thomas Jefferson achieved the design for his Virginia home .  Monticello was designed to reminisce the Pantheon Pantheon. Rome. 118-125 C.E .
Romanticism ,[object Object],J.M.W Turner The Burning Of The Houses of Lords And Commons 1834 Oil on Canvas Turner witnessed this event & made several sketches that soon became this amazing painting Thomas Cole The Oxbow.1836 Oil on Canvas The painting of Romantic Landscapes Flourished during the 1830’s. The painting of The Oxbow soon became an American inspiration for many generations.
Photography  Carleton E. Watkins. The Three Brothers. 1861 Photograph  In 1861 Carleton Watkins traveled to Sierra Nevada to photograph this painting in the Yosemite valley.  Many landscape & portrait painters initially believed photography was a threat to their livelihood, but soon learned of ways to explore and expand their talent.  Delacroix believed, “ photography was potentially of great benefit to art and artists” Nadar recognized that photographers had to be inelegant & creative in order to produce works of art with a camera. Realism   A style of Art & Literature that depicts ordinary existence is known as Realism.  Romantics’ & Neoclassicists’  Both believed that art should  Deal with the human experience & observation as well. Rosa Bonheur The Horse Fair  1853-1855 Oil on Canvas. This painting was meant to capture the surging energy of These group of horses that were offered for sale. Some tamed & others untamed
Impressionism   Claude Monet  On the Bank of the Scene, Bennecourt 1868. Oil on Canvas A group of painters sought to “paint of what the eye actually sees rather than what the mind knows” and these painting came to be known as “impressions”  Edar Degas The Ballet Class 1870-1880 Oil on Canvas Mary Cassatt  The Boating Party 1893-1894 Oil on Canvas
The Post-Impressionist Period Vincent van Gogh  The Starry Night. 1889 Oil On Canvas The Post-Impressionism period refers to the trends that were started around 1885 & the time that followed Impressionism.  In the 20th century both van Gogh & Gauguin’s use of colors played an important part on influencing paintings during this time   Gauguin said, “In paintings, one must search rather for suggestion than for description, as done in music..” Paul Gaugui Fatata Te Miti (By the Sea) Oil On Canvas 1892.
