1. A – Analyze Learners
General Character:
It is a classroom of 25 kindergarten students. There are 13 girls and 12 boys.
They are all in between the ages of 5 and 6. There are no significant physical
delays in any of the students. Four of the students speak English as a second
language and their families are from another country. There is a wide variety
of SES levels represented within the classroom. A few of the students show
early signs of a behavioral/attention deficit issue.
Specific Entry Competencies:
here is a wide spread of cognitive ability within the class. There are students
who are still having issues with their letters and others who are reading
chapter books.
Learning Style:
There are many different learning styles in the class. As many different
methods of teaching as possible are to be used to make sure students get as
much as they can from the unit.
S – State Objectives
Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to identify different types of motion, briefly explain what
causes different types of motion, and give examples of types of motion in real
life.
Conditions of Performance:
Students will actively participate in discussion.
Degree of Acceptable Performance:
Students will be able to identify where the force is coming from that is causing
the motion 3 out of 5 times and be able to name 5 different examples of real
life motion in 3 minutes.
S – Select Methods, Media, Materials
Select Available Materials:
- Smart board
- Computer
- Photoshop
- Power point
- Internet
2. Design New Materials:
- QR linked to point-of-view video of a roller coaster
- Poster using power point
- A class second life avatar
- Photos showing motion using Photoshop
- A wiki discussing different types of motion
Utilize Media and Materials
Preview Materials:
Before the lesson, make sure that all of the necessary programs and software
(Photoshop, Secondlife, power point, internet browser) are on the computer
and that you know how to use it.
Prepare Materials and Environment:
Make sure that all of the necessary web sites are pulled up or bookmarked.
Also make sure to have any log in codes written down. Have pictures
prepared and QR and poster made.
Provide Learning Experience:
The class will be seated on the carpet in front of the smart board. Using the
smart board I will first display the poster made on power point. We will
discuss the types of motion seen illustrated on the poster. Next as a class we
will write a wiki identifying and explaining different types of motion. As we
discuss, Pictures that were made in Photoshop will be pulled up and added to
the wiki with the type of motion it most closely represents.
Require Learner Participation:
In-class and follow up and activities so learner can process information:
Then get on second life and walk around while having the students point out
different types of motion. Then separate the students into five groups of five
and give each group an ipad. Pull up the QR codes linked to the roller coaster
videos and have each group scan a different one.
3. Evaluate and Revise
Before, During, and After Instruction:
All students will be encouraged and prompted to fully participate in
discussion. They will be assessed upon how much/accurately they
participate.
Assess Learner and Media Methods:
After the children watch the QR video with their group, as a group they will
create a list of the different motions that they saw in the roller coaster video.
There will be a list of all the motions discussed in the wiki on the board to
help with spelling.
