and

covered
by
the
insurance
of

4. Why
do
I
need
to
pay
$35?
Boy
Scouts?
Really?
• Your
$35
covers
your
NMX
&
BSA
membership
for
one
year.
This
means
that
you
are
covered
by
excellent
insurance
if
you
get
hurt
while
participating
in
skate
club
events.
• The
Boy
Scouts
have
the
best
insurance.
Think
about
it,
they
take
kids
rock
climbing,
camping,
and
white-‐water
rafting.
• Your
membership
with
the
BSA
is
just
for
the
insurance.
• If
you
can’t
afford
the
$35,
you
can
volunteer
at
Jefferson
or
almost
anywhere
for
4
hours
and
NMX
will
sponsor
you.
5. What
if
I
don’t
have
a
skateboard?
• We
are
working
to
get
skateboards
for
club
members
who
can’t
afford
them.
• If
you
don’t
have
one,
you
can
borrow
one
from
another
member.
• You
don’t
need
to
own
a
skateboard
or
a
helmet,
but
having
your
own
makes
it
easier
to
learn.
• NMX
will
give
every
new
member
a
free
helmet!
6. When
is
it?

7. What
can
we
do?
• Learn
how
to
skate
(basics,
tricks;
everything!)
in
a
friendly
and
safe
environment.
• Have
special
events
at
city
skateparks.
• Design
our
own
shirts,
stickers,
and
board
graphics
and
learn
how
to
screen
print
them.
• Try
to
get
free
skateboard
stuff
from
skate
companies.
• Meet
professional
skateboarders.
• Learn
about
skateboard
photography
and
videography.
• Learn
how
to
design
and
build
skate
ramps.
What
are
your
ideas?
8. Isn’t
Skateboarding
Dangerous?
• Just
like
all
physical
activities,
skateboarding
does
involve
some
dangers.
• To
minimize
your
chances
of
getting
hurt:
– Avoid
cars.
Getting
hit
by
a
car
can
kill
you.
– Wear
safety
gear.
It’s
nice
to
fall
and
get
back
up
pain-‐free!
– Skate
within
your
abilities.
Challenge
yourself
slowly,
don’t
try
to
impress
anyone.
You
are
awesome
and
you
got
nothing
to
prove!
9. Isn’t
skateboarding
just
for
boys?
• No.
Girls
and
women
have
been
skateboarding
since
the
very
beginning.
They
haven’t
gotten
much
respect
or
credit,
but
that
is
changing!
