2. History Barack Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Obama started college at Occidental College then after two years he transferred to Columbia University and graduated in 1983 with a degree in political science. In 1988 Obama enrolled at Harvard Law School, while he was there he became the first African-American editor of the Harvard Law Review. In 1991 Obama graduated magna cum laude.
3. History Cont. After law school Obama went to Chicago and became a civil rights lawyer, during this time he also taught at the University of Chicago Law School. In 1995 Obama published his autobiography, Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance. In 1996 Obama was elected as Illinois State Senator. In 2004 he won a seat in the U.S. Senate, he became the 3rd African-American to be elected into the U.S. Senate. In 2006 he published his second book, The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. In 2008 Obama became the 44th president of the United States and the first African-American to hold this office.
4. Inaugural Address During Obama’s Inaugural Address he focused a lot on unity. He stressed that America needs to move towards a better future together. He was open to the issues that America is facing, he didn’t shy away from them. He discussed our economy, our health care, and our environment. Mostly he focused on how far we have come and how much we still have to do. He spoke a lot about the past and how much we have overcome.
