Reflection Before taking this class I thought that my reading skills were exceptional, but I was
undeniably wrong about that. Now, after taking this class I can say that my reading skills have
greatly improved. I now know how to analyze works of art and find new meanings behind the
words that I read. Now, with the knowledge on how to use criticism to my advantage, all types of
literature will become wide open to me in a sense that I will be able to understand literature in
greater detail. I would certainly say that I learned more in this English class than any other
English class I have taken so far, even though it was online. I even improved on my grammar
throughout the course of these past six weeks. I learned how to write more comprehensive
paragraphs and how to write essays that stay on topic as well. Before taking this class I had not
read too many poems so I was not too familiar with quoting or citing them. Now, I easily know
how to quote a line or stanza without having to look up what to do every time. I would also say that
I am far more appreciative of literature, more than ever poetry. Before this class I did not take
poetry to seriously as I thought it was silly and for the most part nonsense that was being spat off
by crazy writers. Unbeknownst to me I found out quickly just how deep and emotional some
poetry can be. I found out awfully fast that poetry is more than just dilly dally writings and the

My Experience Of Reading
While I was in middle school in sixth grade I actually didn't know how to read books or any story
my teachers would give me. As I was reading through the passages they would give me, I noticed
that while I read a story it wouldn't stick to my head. I then told myself that it is going to be
difficult to read passages since nothing would click in my head. There were times where the
teacher would have the students and I take mini quizzes and I would hardly understand on what
the reader was talking about. I would fail the quizzes due to the reason that I never gained much
knowledge in reading. Articles and stories would always be tough for me to read since I didn't

Reading is important in all aspects of learning. It widens vocabulary, improves imagination, and
is how we discover new things. More than anything, reading develops the mind. It is important to
begin reading with children at a very young age, to introduce new concepts and words creating a

This week's readings were extremely informative and useful. The focus of the readings was in
expanding the culturally pedagogy of cognitive development, information processing, and helping
students understand and construct usable knowledge. All the information covered on the different

Project three, Recovery is Possible: Narcotics Anonymous, hit very close to home for me. This
was a paper discussing a discourse community, the importance of such, and the niche associated
with Narcotics Anonymous. This paper meant a lot to me and I feel honored to have been able to

My Relationship With Reading And Writing
If I could describe my relationship with reading and writing it would most likely have to be,
improving. Of course I would assume the same happens to all students that their reading and
writing skills improve as they continue with their education. For me reading has been a passion,
so my reading skills are pretty advanced and I can say I am able to read well. In my case, being a
child of two Hispanic parents, I do have a slight accent that can get in the way and make my

when I was watching Ted Talks and doing the chart, it made me think about the speaker's features
and how I can use them to describe my characters better. Also, I use my time efficiently I don't

Reading is one of the main skills for learning a language. Reading is a skill that requires learning. It
has its own strategies to be mastered. Although reading skills promote at early age by the support of
parents, teachers play an important role in varying strategies of learning reading at children.
The way I learned English I learned to read English by scaffolding the long words to know which
part of speech they are. I started by reading words, phrases, sentences, paragraphs then whole pages.
At the start, I realized the mistake I was making by stopping at each difficult word to translate. This

reading into pieces or scaffolding to reach the main ideas. Scanning is to review what you have
read to understand your reading. Deconstructing the material of reading is a direct purpose of
reading. It allows to get specific details to connect with general ideas to get a full picture of what
is being read. The third strategy is summarizing. I used to give the reading passage again but in my
own words to make sure to what extent I mastered it. This develops my understanding of the reading
material. Then I answer reading questions and try to get answers from my summary and from the
original reading material to make sure my summary lacks nothing.
Summarizing makes me understand what I am reading using a simpler language. The fourth strategy
to learn English reading is discussing. I used to discuss what I read which an adult or a teacher.
Discussing my reading will add assurance and full understanding of it. It will make me more able
to apply what I read in life through discussing and analyzing looking for positive and negative
aspects in the reading passage. Discussion based reading can also be tested through answering

She also taught me to finish something if I started it, and that carried over to my reading. If I
start reading a book I always finish it and do my best to understand it. So, she instilled what I
know about reading and she influenced the way I read. She always told me, when I was younger,
to pronounce my words right so that when I get older I would pronounce my words right. All that

I also went through a phase in junior high where I bought non–fiction diaries of teenagers that
struggled through different problems. Those always kept me entertained and they were the type
of books that I could never put down. Reading was never something that I just did in school. I did
it whenever we had free time in class, after school, and at night before bed. It was always one of
my hobbies. I also found writing very interesting. I enjoyed writing papers for all of my English
classes. Every one was a little different and every year I truly believe that I became a better writer.
I learned different ways to write and I believe that I always met my teacher's expectations in my
papers. I remember in fifth grade I had to write my first autobiography. That was the only time
until now that I got to write entirely about myself. It's a project that I'll never forget. My teacher
gave us about a month to write this paper and put a book together. The book consisted of my paper

Reflective Essay
As far as writing is concerned, it has never been a greater pleasure of mine than to write about
something. This semester has provided me with a bundle of opportunities to write about a plethora
of topics which I would not even have considered on second thoughts otherwise. The aim of this
reflective essay is to discuss my Literacy Narrative "Experience in Reading and Writing". I decided to
reflect on this essay as it shows my learning path of the English language. This reflection will
analyze the learning process I went through and how it was applied. The process of learning a

communication. I will also discuss the obstacles that I faced and how I came through from it

  • 1. Reflection On My Reading Skills Reflection Before taking this class I thought that my reading skills were exceptional, but I was undeniably wrong about that. Now, after taking this class I can say that my reading skills have greatly improved. I now know how to analyze works of art and find new meanings behind the words that I read. Now, with the knowledge on how to use criticism to my advantage, all types of literature will become wide open to me in a sense that I will be able to understand literature in greater detail. I would certainly say that I learned more in this English class than any other English class I have taken so far, even though it was online. I even improved on my grammar throughout the course of these past six weeks. I learned how to write more comprehensive paragraphs and how to write essays that stay on topic as well. Before taking this class I had not read too many poems so I was not too familiar with quoting or citing them. Now, I easily know how to quote a line or stanza without having to look up what to do every time. I would also say that I am far more appreciative of literature, more than ever poetry. Before this class I did not take poetry to seriously as I thought it was silly and for the most part nonsense that was being spat off by crazy writers. Unbeknownst to me I found out quickly just how deep and emotional some poetry can be.   • 2. My Experience Of Reading While I was in middle school in sixth grade I actually didn't know how to read books or any story my teachers would give me. As I was reading through the passages they would give me, I noticed that while I read a story it wouldn't stick to my head. I then told myself that it is going to be difficult to read passages since nothing would click in my head. There were times where the teacher would have the students and I take mini quizzes and I would hardly understand on what the reader was talking about. I would fail the quizzes due to the reason that I never gained much knowledge in reading. Articles and stories would always be tough for me to read since I didn't have many experience in reading.   • 3. Reflective Essay About Reading Reading is important in all aspects of learning. It widens vocabulary, improves imagination, and is how we discover new things. More than anything, reading develops the mind. It is important to begin reading with children at a very young age, to introduce new concepts and words creating a strong basis for the future. The focus of the readings was in expanding the culturally pedagogy of cognitive development, information processing, and helping students understand and construct usable knowledge.   • 8. My Relationship With Reading And Writing If I could describe my relationship with reading and writing it would most likely have to be, improving. Of course I would assume the same happens to all students that their reading and writing skills improve as they continue with their education. In my case, being a child of two Hispanic parents, I do have a slight accent that can get in the way and make my reading a bit rough.
