2. Breast cancer is a very common form of cancer that is
found in women. You likely know someone that has been
affected by breast cancer at some point in their lives. You
should definitely learn some of the ways to potentially
prevent breast cancer. This is especially true if you have a
history of cancer in your family. Some studies indicate that
there is a 1 in 9 chance of a woman developing cancer.
There is some good news however that there are some
ways that you can potentially protect yourself from breast
cancer. Also when breast cancer is breast cancer is
discovered and treated early, the chances for recovery are
better.
You should know your own breasts so that if you ever
notice any changes you can report these to your doctor
immediately. You should also get regular mammograms
as directed by your doctor. You should also get clinical
breast exams by a doctor as often as recommended by
your doctor. Regardless of age, all women should do their
own monthly breast self-examination. Some things to look
for when conducting this breast examination are puckering
of the skin, the appearance of what is sometimes called
'orange peel skin', any place in your breasts that feels
lumpy or harder than the rest and bleeding from the
nipples or crusting.
3. One good thing is that most breast issues are not
cancerous. Lumps that are not cancerous are known as
'benign'. A lump that is cancerous is called 'malignant'.
While breast cancer continues to be a real threat to
women (and sometimes even men), researchers have
discovered that a healthy lifestyle is the best way to
prevent cancer. One very important factor is diet. You
should eat a diet that is primarily plant based and one that
is low in process foods. Studies have shown that intake of
total fat, saturated fat and meat are associated with an
increased risk of breast cancer. You should also stay
away from smoking or second hand smoke when possible.
Exercise and maintaining a proper body weight are also
very important in preventing breast cancer. A general
overall healthy lifestyle is recommended. Since cancer is a
disease that starts in our cells, everything we eat and are
exposed to can affect them. Choose to be a non-smoker
and avoid second-hand smoke. The link between an
active lifestyle and breast cancer prevention is as yet
unclear but general health is improved when regular
exercise is an integral part of a person's lifestyle. Just
make sure that you consult with your doctor prior to
starting an exercise or diet program.
4. Taking care of ourselves is an ongoing commitment that
requires self-discipline and knowledge. It is well worth the
effort and you'll feel much better for it. It may also
potentially reduce the chances of breast cancer.
