11. Numbers 16:1-2
Now Korah son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the
son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of
Eliab, and On son of Peleth, who were
Reubenites, took men and rebelled against
Moses, along with some of the Israelites, 250
leaders of the community, chosen from the
assembly, famous men.

Does it seem too small a thing to you that the God of
Israel has separated you from the community of Israel to
bring you near to himself, to perform the service of the
tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the
community to minister to them?
He has brought you near and all your brothers, the sons
of Levi, with you. Do you now seek the priesthood also?

21. Korah wanted religious powers
and activities but he didn't value
the relationship with God

22. He didn't trust God's decisions

not a reward

Then Moses said to Korah, “You and all your
company present yourselves before the Lord –

of you take his censer, put incense in it, and then
each of you present his censer before the Lord:
250 censers, along with you, and Aaron – each of
you with his censer.”

33. The next day, Korah & Co. show up

34. Moses goes to the home of
Dathan and Abiram

35. Numbers 16:29
"If these men die a natural death, or if they share
the fate of all men, then the Lord has not sent me.
But if the Lord does something entirely new, and the
earth opens its mouth and swallows them up along
with all that they have, and they go down alive to
the grave, then you will know that these men have
despised the Lord!”

36. (It's merciful that God doesn't do
this kind of thing all the time)

Then a fire went out from the Lord and
devoured the 250 men who offered
incense.

38. They saw the glory of the Lord
on His terms

“Tell Eleazar son of Aaron the priest to pick up the censers
out of the flame, for they are holy, and then scatter the
coals of fire at a distance.
As for the censers of these men who sinned at the cost of
their lives, they must be made into hammered sheets for
covering the altar, because they presented them before the
Lord and sanctified them. They will become a sign to the
Israelites.”

42. The altar was covered with this
holy reminder

43. Only sons of Aaron can burn
incense before God

represents both parties

exactly right

The place where they serve is a sketch and
shadow of the heavenly sanctuary, just as
Moses was warned by God as he was about
to complete the tabernacle. For he says,

the design shown to you on the mountain.”

boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to
parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable,
slanderers, without self-control, savage, opposed
to what is good, treacherous, reckless, conceited,
loving pleasure rather than loving God.

They will maintain the outward
appearance of religion but will have
repudiated its power.
So avoid people like these.
