  2.  Pesticide is a chemical or biological substance that is intended to prevent or repel or destroy the pests that may damage or disturb the growth or health of living organisms which may be plants or animals. These pests include insects, rodents, fungi, weeds, nematodes, algae, etc.
  3.  Classification based on their origin  There are two types  chemical pesticides and bio pesticides. Chemical pesticides are further divided into four types based on their origin –  Organophosphate pesticides  Carbamate  Organ chlorine pesticides  Pyrethroid pesticides
  4.  These are naturally occurring materials or derived naturally from living organisms or their metabolites, like bacteria, fungi, plants, etc. These are classified into three major groups-  Microbial pesticides  Biochemical pesticides  Plant incorporated protectants (PIPs)
  5.  Algaecides are used for killing and/or slowing the growth of algae.  Desiccants are used to dry up living plant tissues.  Defoliants cause plants to drop their leaves.  Miticides control mites that feed on plants and animals. Mites are not insects, exactly.  Ovicides are used to control eggs of insects and mites.  Pheromones are biologically active chemicals used to attract insects or disrupt their mating behavior. The ratio of chemicals in the mixture is often species-specific.  Plant Growth Regulators are used to alter the growth of plants. For example, they may induce or delay flowering.
  6.  Herbicides - used for killing weeds or herbs. e.g, Gramoxone Insecticides - used for killing insects. e.g. Sevin Fungicides - used for killing fungi. e.g. mankocide Nematicides - used for killing nematode e.g. Furadan Rodenticides - used for killing rodents (rat,mice)e.g. Klerat Acaricides - used for killing aracnids (mites) e.g. new mectin Molluscocides - used for killing Molluscs
