REAL WORLD PROBLEMS
BY DEAN BERRY, ED. D.

2. THE PROBLEM
Tim Miller is a quiet 9th grader with very little confidence. His step dad
yells at him constantly and his mom works three jobs. Tim is a loner
who has very few friends. A group of six to ten 9th grade boys like to
pick on Tim and make him feel horrible. Some members of the group
steal his lunch money and school materials. Over the weeks, Tim gets
more and more depressed. On some days, he is not sure he can stand
anymore harassment from the kids at school. One day the students
made his life miserable all day long. That evening Tim Miller locked his
bedroom door and hung himself. A police investigation confirmed that
five students at school had been guilty of mental abuse.
