Proverbs ___:___ Matthew ___:___ Luke ___:___-___ Acts ___:___ Home Is Where Your Heart Is “And when He (Jesus) returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home” (Mark 2:1). The word for home here is the Greek word oikos which means house. This passage is referencing the four walls and the roof that sheltered the Lord’s head. Matthew 8:20 indicates that “the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head,” so the house must be home to someone close to Jesus. In Capernaum, Jesus stayed in the home of Peter. Matthew 8:5 & 14 indicates that Peter’s house was in Capernaum. It is possible that Peter held a “Mi casa es su casa” policy with Jesus. Home is where the heart is. As Jesus is sitting in his home in Mark 2:1, the crowd grows so large inside that no one else is able to get in. This is when a paralytic man is brought by his friends and they devise a plan to get their friend to Jesus. “And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay” (Mark 2:4). The word for “made an opening” literally means “dig through.” As Jesus is sitting under the place where the paralytic was laid, He must have felt some debris land upon His head. He must have looked up to see a large, man-sized opening. What would you have done if you were sitting in your home and this took place? My home is where my heart is. I might have said, “Hey, that’s my roof you are tearing up!” “Hey now, who do you think you are?” Or maybe, “This is private property, you have no right to do this!” But how did Jesus respond? And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven” (Mark 2:5) Jesus’ home was where his heart was. While sitting in His home, his heart was more concerned with restoring a man’s soul than restoring the roof. Jesus showed by His action that as His followers, our eternal… Home is where the heart is.
