Lord willing, we will be meeting with the ministers as well as other brothers and sisters while we are there. Our main purpose is to conduct a min- isters’ conference that will help further equip and empower the ministers in Belize for their ministries. As Scripture reveals, Christians often can only be as strong as their leaders. And so we understand that leaders also need encouragement and strengthen- ing so that they can strengthen those they lead. The importance of equipping and encouraging church leaders is made fully evident by Paul’s farewell ad- dress to the Ephesian elders. “I did not shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, and teaching you publicly and from house to house…I did not shrink from declar- ing to you the whole purpose of God. Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.” – Acts 20:21, 27-28 Paul spent special time teaching and counseling the elders at Ephesus so that they could protect themselves and the church spiritually. He taught them eve- rything that he could, declaring to them the whole purpose of God. Paul also instructed the minister Timothy to give special attention to teaching and equipping men according to all that he had been taught. “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witness- es, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” – 2 Tim. 2:2 As we can see, God’s Word calls ministers to strengthen each other and to equip more men to be ministers as well. It is our hope and prayer that God will use this trip to strengthen the leaders in Belize so that they can strengthen the Belizean churches and equip other men to lead as God calls them to. So please keep us and the churches and ministers in Belize in your prayers. And may God empower us to equip the equippers! ~Jeffrey Howell
