Our Personal Evangelism Seminar is soon to be upon us (June 11-13). I want to use the front of the bulletin to en- courage you to attend each day of the seminar. It will only be 2 sessions on Friday starting at 6:30PM, and Saturday morning till 1 in the afternoon. Rob Whitacre will also preach the sermon Sunday and teach the Bible class. Lunch will be provided on Saturday. For the next three weeks I want to answer the question, “Why do we need this evangel- ism seminar?” Each week we will handle one of the follow- ing titles. 1) We are plainly told to go into all the world, but not how. 2) Evangelism can be uncomfortable. 3) We live in a society that says “everyone is okay.” This week, let’s discuss the issue of “We are plainly told to go into all the world, but not how.” “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20). This commission is to be observed by all disciples through- out the ages. It is challenging to know how we will respond when asked for the “reason of the hope within us.” Will I say the right thing? Will I know the answers to the questions I am asked? I believe it is safe to say that we fear the un- known. What do we know about missions from this pas- sage? The authority by which the message is proclaimed is Christ’s, not ours. This gives us our starting point. Answer- ing someone’s obscure question, for instance, can immedi- ately give us a starting point. This can lead to a second study that can be structured by the God Speaks Today Bible study or the study that will be introduced by Rob Whitacre. The more we know, the more prepared we will be, to speak with anyone. Faith is a direct correlation to our willingness to speak the truth to our fellow man. “And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’ But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?’ So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (Romans 10:15-17).
