Mission Sunday is
August 1, 2021
Jefferson Christian Academy (JCA)
JCA was established to serve Christian families and Churches of Christ. Regardless of
whether our Christian families decide to enroll their children in this private Christian
school, churches can agree that the Academy’s influence is needed in our area.
Before Covid-19 only 20 percent of the student body at JCA was comprised of children
who attend Churches of Christ. This makes JCA an excellent opportunity for evangelism.
All students are required to attend chapel every morning and at least one Bible class each
day. They attend classes taught by Christian teachers who are free to discuss the Bible
without any interference from the government. Just think of the potential for Christ
Alex Coggins is currently the Campus Minister at JCA.
Bible Correspondence Courses (BCC’s)
One of our mission works is a ministry teaching a Bible Correspondence Course
(BCC). In about 2008, Denis Williams announced that Roebuck Parkway was going to
begin a program of work for the BCCs. He recruited several teachers who would be given
lessons from students around the country, even the world. Since that time, Roebuck/
Deerfoot has had hundreds of students with numerous baptisms arranged through other
congregations of the Lord. Many of these students are prisoners in Wisconsin, Illinois,
Missouri, Alabama, and other states. Each student is given the opportunity to provide re-
ferrals of friends, relatives, and others to take this course.
The course is made up of five lessons on Faith, the Bible, the Church, Miracles in the
New Testament, and Salvation. In the first lesson on faith, it tells the student that the Bible
was written to give man a knowledge of God, and God reveals Himself progressively
throughout the Bible. When a lesson is returned, it is graded by a teacher who returns it to
the student with the correct answers and scriptures to the questions missed along with the
next lesson. Hopefully, this will encourage the student to increasingly study more and
grow more in his or her faith.
In the recent past, we have had only one teacher for BCCs. More teachers are needed as
we continue to publicize and promote this good work. Please volunteer with Jim
Timmerman to be a BCC teacher to help spread the word of God!
