Mission Sunday is
Today
Take and Send the Light: Missio
Missio is not a misspelling. It is a Latin word meaning “One Sent.” It is where we
get the English word “missionary.” It is also where we get the word for our day today.
Mission Sunday. The Greek equivalent is apostello, “one sent,” where we get the name
apostle.
Today, you are the missionary. You are the apostello. You are sent to take the
Gospel into all the world.
“And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole
creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe
will be condemned” (Mark 16:15-16).
Sometimes those sent, also send.
“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon
who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch,
and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart
for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and
praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off” (Acts 13:1-3).
The congregation in Antioch had those who were sent to do the will of the Father
(prophets and teachers). Since they sent out Barnabas and Paul, it is paramount that we at
Deerfoot do the same. I believe the equipped members in Antioch continued to do the
work the Lord gave them in addition to the sending of Paul and Barnabas.
This means we take and send the light.

Sympathy
We express our sympathy to Frank and
Yvonne Montgomery at the death of their
grandson, Boston Montgomery. A
memorial service was held on Friday.
We also express our sympathy to Ricky
and Susan Berryhill at the death of her
mother, Betty Hartsfield.

By now everyone should be aware of the new,
more infectious strain of Covid-19 that is affect-
ing our nation. As we strive to worship together,
the elders encourage each of us to do what we
know to do to protect not only ourselves from
this new strain of virus, but to protect our broth-
ers and sisters who are at risk of contracting the
virus.
