Impact Groups
The Impact Group has two main areas of ministry. The first is the greeting, welcoming and
showing hospitality and concern for the visitors to our services; putting our best face on "guest
relations," and giving a welcome to our visitors that will make them want to come back. There are
several areas of ministry on these days: greeting visitors at the door and in the foyer, introducing
them to families who will sit with them, invite them to brunch or lunch and otherwise make them
feel welcome. Supplementing the parking lot attendants and ushers will also be a possibility
depending on weather and crowds; this may mean assistance in bad weather parking, assistance
in showing guests to a seat, or finding a relative or friend who has invited them. Every Sunday a
Impact Group is assigned to be greeters.
The other area of IMPACT, the "52 week ministry," is ministering to the needs of our congrega-
tion...shut ins, service to the bereaved, sick, hospitalized, prayers for special and ongoing needs.
Basically the work of the Care Groups is now incorporated into this program. If you can prepare
meals, provide transportation, make phone calls, visit sick or shut-ins, contact absentees, pray for
those with special needs, whatever you can do to show love and concern for others, we need your
help. Let us know what you can do and how we can contact you.
The last area of the Impact Group is attendance. Every Sunday fill out an attendance card with
your Impact Group number. This information is used by the Elders and Impact Group leaders to
help keep up with each member. Every member is assigned to a Impact Group. Connection
Groups are voluntary participation.
Please check the list in the foyer to see what Impact Group you are assigned.
Connection Groups
The Connection Groups are designed to connect and to get to know other members of Deerfoot. This
group is on a voluntary basic. The groups will change once a year in order to get to know each other. Each
group will decide what night or day they will meet and the location of the dinner or activity. Each group
will have a leader and co-leader. Contact Michael Dykes if you would like to join a Connection Group.

Freedom from the Guilt of Sin

When one is made free from sin and its guilt he then has
his joy restored. After his sin with Bathsheba David was
burdened with guilt ant it robbed him of his joy in life. That is
why in Psalms 51:12 he prayed earnestly to God saying
“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold
me with thy free spirit.” Toward the end of hi life when he
encouraged the people to give for the purpose of building
the temple and the people responded so magnificently we
see David rejoicing with the people. The text in I Chronicles
29:9 says, “Then the people rejoiced, for that they of-
fered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered
willingly to the LORD: and David the king also rejoiced
with great joy.” David had that joy restored.
In the New Testament when Paul became aware of
his sin, he felt its guilt and that robbed him of his joy. While
waiting for Ananias, Paul went three days without eating or
drinking. When Ananias came and told Paul what he
“must do”, he obeyed and his sins and its guilt were re-
moved. Paul no longer dwelt on his past sins. Later he
would write to the church at Philippi and tell them,
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended but
this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are
behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are
before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high
calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Paul could then rejoice
and be able to write and encourage other Christians to do
the same. “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the
Lord” (Phil. 3:1a). “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again
I say, Rejoice” (Phil. 4:4). “But I rejoiced in the Lord
greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flour-
ished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked
opportunity” (Phil. 4:10). The word “rejoice” or “joy” is
used 16 times in the letter to the Philippians.
We see the same result in the conversion of the
Ethiopian eunuch. While returning home and reading from
the scroll of Isaiah he was joined by Philip who taught him
the gospel and who then baptized him. Prior to this time
eunuchs were not allowed to enter into the temple of God,
but there is a promise made to them by God in this same
book of prophecy. “Neither let the son of the stranger,
that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak,
saying, The LORD hath utterly separated me from his
people: neither let the eunuch say, Behold, I am a dry
tree. For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that
keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please
me, and take hold of my covenant; Even unto them will I
give in mine house and within my walls a place and a
name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give
them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off” (Isa.
56:3-5). That promised was fulfilled when the eunuch was
baptized into Christ and the Bible tells us, “And when they
were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more:
and he went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8:39).
Today, when we are obedient to the gospel of
Christ, we can be free from our sins and from the guilt of our
sins so that joy can be restored to us all.
