What is Your Why?
A man I admire greatly asks this question often. I am thankful for him and praying
fervently for his fight.
The words “what, where, when, and why” all lead to our decisions on any given day. Each
seems to be equal in weight. Further investigation proves otherwise.
I spoke with a gentleman once who was seeking to be clean from addiction. His desire was
simply that he wanted that addiction gone. So, he knew what he wanted gone. He knew
when he wanted it gone. He knew where he wanted it — far, far away from his life right
then and there. He only told me he did not know why he wanted it gone.
He knew he didn’t want others to experience discomfort from his poor decisions, but he
could not come to a reason for why to literally save. His. Life.
What is your why?
It’s your reason for fighting. It’s your reason for ridding your life of that unwanted…
whatever. Why?
In the instance of being clean, I explained that his why was simply seeking be rid of his
one consuming problem. With the prospect of that gone he was facing an emptiness. A
“now what” if you will. Your why cannot be nothing. Your why cannot be simply the
removal of a blight. He was trying to be content, but it was impossible.
Your why is what you are seeking to be filled with. It is the opposite of emptiness. The
antithesis of nothingness.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be
satisfied” (Matthew 5:6).
Why are you blessed when seeking righteousness? You find your why.
Paul found it in life and especially in death.
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means
fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the
two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the
flesh is more necessary on your account” (Philippians 1:21-24).
I pray that my reason for living is Paul’s — “to live is Christ, to die is gain.”

CIA Classes
In person CIA classes have begun. They are held on Thursdays from 9:30-10:15.
Classes begin at 9:30 followed by a short devo. The men’s class is being taught by
Richard Harp. They are studying The Sermon on the Mount. The ladies’ class is being
taught by Donna McCurry. They are studying Precious Plans for Precious Women by
Becky Blackmon and Lea Fowler.
Thursday meals will continue to be delivered between 10:30 and 11:00.
Connection Groups
It’s time to reorganize our Connection Groups. New Groups
will begin in October. Connection Groups help provide an
opportunity for existing and new members to get to know each
other. Groups usually meet once a month in a member’s home.
We need Group Leaders as well as participants to make our
Connection Groups successful. Current group members and
new group members need to sign up to be in a group this time.
Information Sheets and Sign-Up Sheets are on the counter in
the Foyer. Contact Steve Putnam if you have questions.
Wednesday Evening Class
Richard will be teaching the book of Psalms in the auditorium this quarter.
Ladies’ Class
We will have a new Ladies’ Class on
Wednesday nights beginning October
5th. The book for this class will be
Immeasurably More by Casandra
Martin.

Sympathy
We express our sympathy to Sammy
Estes and family at the passing of her
grandmother, Elaine House. Her services
were held on Thursday.
We also express our sympathy to DeeAnn
Gunnells and family at the passing of her
father. His services were held in Florida.

Annual Door Knocking Day
Our annual door knocking day will be Saturday,
October 22nd. We will meet at the building at
9:30am and will be finished by noon.
We need your help! Please sign the list in the foyer
if you plan to attend.
Sunday Evening Class
Jeffrey will begin teaching a class entitled, “Defending Biblical Baptism” on Sunday
evening, October 9th. This class will meet in Adult Classroom 2.
Our annual Trunk or Treat will be Saturday,
October 29th from 4pm until 6pm. We need
volunteers to decorate trunks. If you would be
willing to decorate your trunk, please sign the list
in the foyer.
We also need candy!! We are inviting the
community this year, so please bring individually
packaged candy and drop it in the basket in the
foyer.
