1. 5th Grade-Personal Narrative
It's the last day of 5th grade. Today we'll find out who our new teacher would be next year, and
then it happened! Our teacher handed out our report cards and supply list and right on the
bottom in big, bold letters, said the name. It was our 6th grade teacher, Mr. Persampire. Just
looking at it brought shivers down my back. Throughout the year, everyone heard rumors about
him. From how mean he is, to how much he yells, I'm sure all of us was scared. Over the summer,
I was really nervous. My thoughts were all messed up that all I could even think about was Mr.
Persampire. 'What happens if he is really mean and yells for no reason all the time?' I thought.
'Maybe the rumors are true!' I tried to make the best of it. I am in a good class and maybe he's

BEEP! BEEP! That was the sound of my alarm. I eventually got out of bed and got ready. On the
way to school, my dad could tell I was nervous. I told him what I was worried about. He reassured
me that those rumors were probably not true and that was the end of it. When I saw my friends, I
could see their expressions on their faces. They were all scared! As we walked into school, we
remembered all the memories from last year. When we went to our classroom, one of the first
things Mr. P said to us was not to be scared. He even made some jokes and we all liked him
already. I enjoyed everything about him. He's really different from all of our past teachers. He
doesn't yell for no reason, and is really nice! There was something about him that made me really
comfortable. After a month of being with him, we already learned new things. I even started
participating a lot! He didn't even really yell yet! I like Mr. P because he explains everything to us
and does really fun things. One thing that never happened in the past, is that the day goes by really
quickly. We are never bored and always have something to do. When we work hard from the
morning, by the afternoon, it feels like we've just gotten

2. Essay on My Family History
My Family History
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have
a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you
to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the
average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see
that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A
persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer
to self–discovery.
There are two sides to a person's family and one side of my family has...show more content...
One of these is that on Thanksgiving everybody comes together to my parents' house in New Jersey
for a huge feast. On Christmas only my mother and the children (me and my brother) travel to Illinois
to spend a week with my grandparents. On New Years Eve we all get together at my parents'
house in New Jersey and toast to the New Year with champagne and apple cider. During Labor
Day weekend all of my family travels to South Jersey to my grandfathers' condo. We usually
spend all of our time on the beach and barbequing, except on Sunday when we go to church. After
all, my grandfather is a minister. One of our biggest family traditions is going back to Puerto
Rico. Every year my mother and I travel back to Puerto Rico for a portion of our summer
vacation. Now that I am older I travel there more often and stay there much longer. My father never
joins because he doesn't like my mothers side of the father too much and he thinks that we when we
speak Spanish we are all plotting against him. Of course that's not true though. My bother doesn't
speak Spanish so he doesn't like to go either. I guess that tradition is one that belongs solely to my
mother and I.
The role of the people in family basically stayed the same for most of the generations with a little
change in the later generations. Earlier the males were the only ones that worked in the family and
the wife stayed at home and took care of the house and

3. The Power of Language Essay examples
The Power of Language Language plays an important role in communication by bringing people
together and enriching their relationships. Language can also alienate those who do not speak it
properly, or at all, from those who do. The essays, Mother Tongue, by Amy Tan, best known for
her book, The Joy Luck Club, and Se Habla Espanol, by Tanya Barrientos, delve into the many
powers that language holds. These essays reflect how by not speaking a language in proper form
and by not speaking a language at all, affects the lives of the subjects of the stories. People who can
speak a certain language, but only in 'broken' form, are generally looked down upon by native
language speakers. In her writing, Mother Tongue, Amy Tan writes about her

However, many Hispanic families were and in some cases, still are viewed as lower–class citizens.
According to Barrientos, "To me, speaking Spanish translated into being poor. It meant waiting
tables and cleaning hotel rooms. It meant being left off the cheerleading squad and receiving a
condescending smile from the guidance counselor when you said you planned on becoming a
lawyer or a doctor" (561). They are not respected in a lot of communities, they live dirty, and they
have bad jobs. These stereotypes are reasons why Barrientos did not want to be called Mexican
and never wanted to learn Spanish. If diversity had been celebrated when Barrientos was a child,
as it is celebrated and honored now, she would have grown up speaking Spanish and being proud of
her heritage. Children are very impressionable and tend to take on others' opinions as their own, but
as they grow older, they develop a greater understanding and perspective of the way things are and
the way they should be. As adults, both Tan and Barrientos learned to accept and embrace the
languages that previously embarrassed them. Barrientos immersed herself in her Mexican heritage
and enrolled in many Spanish classes. With each enrollment, she faced yet another stereotype that
came with being of Mexican ethnicity; her instructors thought she should already know Spanish
since she was Latina. Barrientos is now determined to learn her native language. Tan has learned to

4. There I was, holding onto my suitcase, standing in the airport about to board my plane. I was
fifteen years old, going into my sophomore year of high school, and I was going to Italy for ten
days with my best friend and a tour group from his school. For months, we had been counting
down the days until we leave. The day was finally here and everyone around was full of
excitement. Everyone else had been on planes multiple times in their lives. As for me, I had never
been on an airplane before and had no idea what to expect about this upcoming eight hour plane
ride. This was going to be the first time I was ever away from home. The thought of being away
from my family for this long, was a little intimidating to me. I always had the company...show more

I was studying Italian in school, and my family would speak it here and there, I understood a lot but
I was not yet fluent in speaking. It was difficult to converse with anyone I came into contact with. I
was not able to speak to the merchants when I tried to purchase something or any of the people
walking by in the streets. Not being capable of corresponding with the people in this country was
something that frightened me.
Although I was having fun with my friends, I missed my family. By the second or third night, I
began to feel homesick. I did not want to be away from my family anymore and I wanted to go
home. There was nothing I could do about that, though. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't just go
home whenever I felt like it. I knew that my tour guide noticed something was wrong with me
because she was constantly asking me if something was bothering me. I was too embarrassed to
tell her and kept my feelings to myself. I was lucky to have one of my closest friends there with
me, because without him I don't know how I would have gotten through it. He was someone who I
was comfortable with and could tell anything to. When we went back to our hotel room at the end
of that night, I talked to him and he was able to help me feel better and convince me that we were
going to have a great time.

5. Becoming a Mom Changed My Life Essay
Two of the greatest days of my life were the days my daughters were born. The first time I held the
both of them and gazed into their eyes I felt a sense of relief and hope. The feeling is a warm
tingling sensation that engulfed my entire body. The emotions that I felt are beyond what words can
explain. It's amazing to me that in the first few minutes of their lives they completely changed my
perception of the world.
Motherhood has taught me many life lessons. Before becoming a mother, I was a self centered child. I
had no motivation to succeed. All I was worried about was where the next party was. At that time I
had no want to try because I was so scared to fail. I was slowly progressing to go nowhere and do

They just want to learn about the world around them. They have inspired me to go out and try new
things. Every day they grow a little bit more independent. As they grow, I grow.
I have learned a lot about success from my daughters. For example, I watched them learn to walk.
They weeble, they wobble and fall down. But no matter how many times they fall, they get up and
try again. It has taught me that no matter what obstacles occur, if I just continue to try I can and will
succeed.
My daughters are my motivation to succeed. Each day I work very hard to provide for them.
Some days I really just want to give up. I don't want to be a student, I don't want to work. I just
want to quit. But when I think to myself how their faces light up at the sight of me, Mommy. I
realize that if I quit now I'm quitting on them. It is no longer about my wants and needs it is about
their wants and needs first.
The greatest reward of being a mother is the love I share with my children. It is like no other. It is
pure and unconditional. There is no greater feeling than when my two year old say "Mommy I
love you" or when my ten month old gives me kisses. The love we share is the greatest gift from
God that I have ever received.
In the short time that I have been a mother I have learned many things. I have realized that every
day is a learning experience. I have taken the mistakes that I have made and learned from them. My
children have pushed me to strive for

6. Loneliness Essay
To be lonely is an easy thing, being alone is another matter entirely. To understand this, first one
must understand the difference between loneliness and being alone. To be alone means that your
are not in the company of anyone else. You are one. But loneliness can happen anytime, anywhere.
You can be lonely in a crowd, lonely with friends, lonely with family. You can even be lonely
while with loved ones. For feeling lonely, is in essence a feeling of being alone. As thought you
were one and you feel as though you will always be that way. Loneliness can be one of the most
destructive feelings humans are capable of feeling. For loneliness can lead to depression, suicide,
and even to raging out and hurting friends and/or...show more content...
Generally almost all loneliness can be traced back to low or below "average" self–esteem.
Chronically lonely people will usually have low opinions of themselves. They may think of
themselves as unintelligent, unattractive, broken, unwanted, not worthy of good things, no good,
unable to do anything right, and/or socially isolated. Unlike many other emotionally hurting people,
the chronically lonely usually know what is wrong, but like many others they don't believe they can
do anything to fix it, or, circling back to the low self–esteem, they may also believe they are not
worth of happiness.
It takes the strong support of a good friend(s) or other loved one(s) to help the lonely conquer their
feelings. Simply trying to counteract the low self–esteem verbally will not do it, though, for in their
down state, they will see the person as just trying to be nice or spare their feelings. The lonely
must be shown in more subtle, yet clear ways that they are not the useless person they perceive
themselves to be. For example, with a person who feels particularly unloved and unwanted,
someone close to them should try to take a little extra time to spend with that person and try to set
aside a little extra time to talk to the person.
Nothing special needs to be said or done, simply spending time, willing and without having been
asked, allows the lonely one to see that they are loved. That they are worthy of being associated with
and that there are

Personal Narrative– Knee Injury
I was always an active person from being in sports to hanging out with friends. I always had
something planned, or came up with something on the fly. My junior year in high school was a
very tough time for me. I was involved in a lot of activities, organizations, and clubs. I was very
active in one organization where I had to be up at school every morning at 7:15 for that meeting.
Meaning I would not leave school sometimes until 6:45 to 7:00 in the evening. On the weekends I
would have something to do either with friends or family. I would never go a weekend with nothing
to do. Either I was out running errands or at the mall buying some new clothes.
The problem came in on November 22, 2000 at an away...show more content...
She past me the ball, I took a jump stop and my left knee turned inward to my right knee. My knee
turned so bad that the left one touched the right one making a popping sound. I fell to the court in
pain while the tears mixed with sweat. The coaches had to call for an ambulance to take me to Cook's
Children Hospital.
I sat in the waiting room of that hospital for about an hour and a half. They let the younger children
with the ear infections, and mild flu like symptoms go first. As I sat there in the wheelchair I saw a
very familiar face walk through the semi–crowed waiting room. As the face got closer and clearer,
tears began to form and fall to my face. My head coach walked up to me and asked how I was doing.
This meant so much to me, to know that he took time away from his family to see one of his
players. We sat there for a while and talked he cracked a fewjokes and we shared a few laughs. All
of a sudden my mind started to wonder, and the first thing that crossed was what if it is too bad for
me to return to the court within the next two weeks, or worse for the rest of my high school days.
As I sat there and let the doctor examine my knee and diagnosis me with a "left knee sprain". I
started to cry. I already knew the outcome that I had a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). I tried
to continue to play on it until one time I was playing in a tournament, and I went up to block a girls

Losing a Loved One
Losing a loved one is like having the rug swept from under you. We make plans for the day, and
do not think twice about how those plans can be taken away in the blink of an eye. I never thought
much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my uncle's death. I
do not think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with shocking news. It
is amazing how we take life for granted. The tragedy never goes away. You just learn how to cope
with it and keep moving on.

face. I had no reaction at first and I wanted to deny it, all of it. I kept saying to myself, no it is a lie,
they made a mistake. To my complete horror I was wrong.
My mom kept saying "I have got to go see Fran. I need to see with my brother" My mom ran down
stairs to get ready to go, I followed her and just stood there, still paralyzed. She hugged me and
said that she loved me. I had never seen my mom so panicked. She went into the bathroom to take
a shower and I could still hear her sobbing through the door. I was all by myself, now. I was
standing in the middle of the family room as the words "He is dead" pierced my heart like daggers
of ice. I was screaming OH, GOD NO, and started to cry uncontrollably. The realization that I

9. Leadership Role and Style: Personal Narrative
During my past employment, I had the chance to exercise leadership roles, managing a group of
three, and train new employees. One way to motivate them was to let them leave early on the last
working day of the week. I also empowered them by providing them some consulting work, which
they felt that it was shown to the client as their own work in order for them to feel that they were
part of the team and have a sense they belong to the organization. Therefore, this behavioral
approach that I exercised would be considered as Employee–centered Leadership. This is because I
focused on the people doing the work, while delegating decision making, and satisfying employee
needs, which created a creative a supportive work environment (Rama). From there, I also sat with
each one alone and try to figure out the goals and objectives that he or she wanted, which was either
in the organization or educational wise while developing ideas on how to accomplish their goals.
Therefore, as an Employee–centered leader, I was responsible for others and being a team player as
well. As a leader, I feel that working in a group or team is a must to see progress within the
company. In order to see progress within the company, working together as a team is very
important. When the employees see the leader working with as a team, they feel more motivated to
work. They feel equally as important as the leader. By enhancing this equality, a team will create a
concept that suits the diverse needs of the

11. Essay on Narrative Therapy
Abstract
This paper will look at the logic of narrative therapy by focusing on 5 major points. This paper will
begin by discussing how the narrative approach defines and perceives problems. It will address how
narrative therapy views the nature of the relationship between the client and the professional. This
paper will look at how problems are solved using the narrative approach. It will also focus on three
main techniques used in narrative therapy, which will include externalization, deconstruction and
re–authoring. This paper will also include a short narrative critique of the medical model. The Logic
of Narrative Therapy Narrative therapy is considered postmodern due to the fact that it uses a story

According to Kelley (1996) this process is recommended by narrative therapists because it allows
the client to begin to see where the discourse emerged from. The therapist must first just listen to the
story and determine what the client sees as the existing problem (Kelley, 1996). Then the therapist
begins to ask questions with the intention of bringing forth the full meaning of the problem (Kelley,
1996). In deconstruction the therapist searches for answers as to who all is involved with the
problem, what past events lead up to the problem development, how the problem changed over time,
how the client has been fighting the problem thus far and how the problem is affecting the client's
life (Kelley, 1996).
Kelley (1996) reported that after the therapist has a full understanding of the problem the
deconstruction phase moves on to its second stage. The therapist and the client begin working
together to break down the prevailing story in order to map the influence the problem is having on
the client's life (Kelley, 1996). Mapping the effect of the problem is particularly important because
it lays the foundation of the new story line (Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston, 1997). According
to Monk, Winslade, Crocket & Epston (1997) typically when the effect of the problem is discussed
with the client they begin to feel as if their story has been heard. They

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward

but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit
discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the
same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was
intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing
are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't
personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the
most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and
professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to
write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to.
Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am
assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find
myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this
would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the
majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and
therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume
every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

15. Reflection On My English 101 Experience
Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your
mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The
truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in
the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can
explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses.
Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before
taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and
unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I
struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to
the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class
that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the
whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for
navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I
have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in
English 101 is the writing triangle. Even before outlining, the topic, purpose, and audience of the

Structure of a Personal Narrative Essay
"Narrative" is a term more commonly known as "story." Narratives written for college or personal

Writing Strategies to Consider
First Person vs. Third Person Narratives are a mode of writing in which writers often use first
person perspective
("I saw", "I did"). Check with your instructor to determine whether you can use "I" when telling your
story.
*Verb Tense: Reporting vs. Reflecting The events of most narratives are told inpast tense: "As I
hiked, I felt the warm sun on my back." Use present tense when reflecting on the events: "Now I
know how unprepared I was". Notice the change in tense in this sentence as the writer reflects on the

19. Descriptive Essay About My Mother
No matter how hard life gets for me and how chaotic things can become there has always been one
person that I can turn to, my mom. She's been a wealth of advice to call on when I'm clueless and
a shoulder to cry on when I'm down. Her compassion for others inspires me to be a better person
as does the guidance she has given me over the years. She's not afraid to give me a reality check
and to tell me the things I don't want to hear even though I need to. She keeps me grounded and
teaches me to appreciate the smaller things in life. Even though my dad was still involved in my life
after my parents split up it was my mother who I primarily lived with and it was her who had the
greatest influence on my life growing up. Anyone who has known my...show more content...
Heaven help you if you do anything to endanger her family. My mom also does not go soft on her
kids; she can be a formidable disciplinarian when she wants to and will not hesitate to set us
straight when we broke the rules. She won't let anybody walk over her and is really quick to anger
if you try. My mother is strong–willed and stubborn; when she sets her mind to something almost
nothing will stop her and what an impossible feat it is to change her mind on something. She is
very impatient; when she wants something done she wants it done at this very moment, no later.
She is idealistic and she enjoys the simpler things that life has to offer. She loves nature and would
love nothing more than to be living in a cabin in the mountains while listening to country music.
She does not pay much attention to news happening outside her local area and prefers to focus on
what's happening in her immediate area. From my mother I have learned how to be the person that
I am today. Through her I have learned the importance of family and that it is paramount to spend
time with them while I still have it. Even now I try to spend time with my family when I have the
opportunity to. Form her I have learned compassion for those around me and for animals. Even

20. The Forgotten: Part of a Short Story Essay
The light, so brilliant and beautiful, everywhere always everywhere, filling every corner and
creves. Shining around me, through me, from me. I feel delishesly warm, the heat spreading
though out my entire body. All my nerves and senses completely aware of all life, even the
smallest miniscule particles. Then the voices, they are always next, as much as I relish hearing
them, I also dread it because I know what is coming after. "You are complete" they whisper in a
warm, kind tone, one that puts me right at ease. "You must do it, for all life to continue" the voices
getting louder, clearer with each word spoken. By this time I can normally define certain voices
from the rest. They starts out sounding as one, as if a million voices all...show more content...
That gorgeous light shines so brightly that it blinds me, all I can see is a glare everywhere. It's
like it's streaming from every pore of my body. I cry out in agony, internally pleading for the
voices to take away the pain. And like normal at this point, it's as if they can read my thoughts, or
maybe they are just sense the pain I must be in. "You will never be forgotten" they have to
practically yell to be heard over my screams of pain. I feel excruciating pain all over, yet my
consenses reminds me it is for the greater good. How I know that I don't understand, but it's the
only shred of information that makes the pain bearable. I feel like a star that is dying, and yet it's
light will continue to be shed on millions for generations to come. Somehow my actions will be
like that, benefiting countless people for generations. "No more, please make it stop" I beg, even
my internal voice frail and empty. "Sarah...." Comes a man's voice seemingly out of nowhere. It's
distant, but I try to latch on to it with the last bit of humanity I have left inside me. "Sarah.." this
time louder pulling me slightly away from the light, the heat, and the pain. With the voices still
calling out to me I ride his word.."Sarah" to freedom. "Sarah, are you ok?" James looks down at me
with a concerned expression on his face. "I was day dreaming again wasn't I?" my feeble voice barely
