overvaluation of a country’s exchange rate
 As that happens, its non-resource
industries become uncompetitive on world
markets resulting in loss of jobs and income
 The “disease” gets its name from the
effects of the discovery of large North Sea
gas deposits by the Netherlands in the
1950s and 1960s
