2. How is it achieved?
Being consistent: The child will learn their boundaries and limits
which will help the child follow the expectations of the parent.
Firm but friendly: making them aware of consequences in an
approachable way rather than resulting in immediate, harsh
discipline.
Effective communication: Child is verbally aware of their actions
Preserving your child’s self-worth: teaching them how to act in a
polite manner whilst maintaining a positive, respectful child-parent
relationship.
Example: A child is playing up in public area, the parent could gently pull them aside,
alert them of their behaviours and set boundaries and consequences if the behaviour
continues. The child is then aware of the boundaries around them and are less likely to
continue behaviour out of concern for consequences that can arise. They would also
have more respect for their parent as they acted in a firm but respectful manner.
3. What happens when it goes wrong
as a result of a lack of Discipline or ineffective
punishment/discipline the child might learn to;
Rebel
Become impolite and lose any form of manners
Push the boundaries and manipulate the parents
May not respect authority figures e.g. teachers and parents
Talk back and use bad language
May not learn from their mistakes
