Slideshare continues to be a compelling visual medium for marketers everywhere, but people don't realize that there are tips and tricks to ensuring you're squeezing the most out of the presentations that you post on Slideshare. Learn how to get around the import limitations of Slideshare and how to even embed links in your presentations for maximum exposure. These are the top 10 proven tips for leveraging Slideshare that I've learned over the years and that have driven hundreds of leads to my clients.
2. Tip #1. Design a KILLER Title Slide
• BACKGROUND - Find a
background image that is
colorful, bright and captures
attention.
• FONT - Write your title with a font that’s easy to
see, even if your presentation is viewed much
smaller (as it is on Slideshare)
• TITLE - Make your title so compelling that
visitors must click on it.
3. Tip #2. Cheat Customizations
• FONTS & SHADOWS – Will help make your
presentation unique but will not import into
Slideshare. Here’s how to cheat…
• EXPORT – Set your fonts, adjust your shadows, then
export the presentation with the file type set to
images. Build a new presentation with the images as
the slides or export as PDF and upload!
4. Tip #3 Fill in Your Notes
NOTES – are the sections
under your slide in
PowerPoint.
If you fill them in,
Slideshare will display
them on Slideshare –
providing your Slideshare
presentation page with
additional content that can
attract search engine
traffic.
5. Tip #4 Insert Links
• LINKS – are properly converted by the
Slideshare system when you insert them!
• SOCIAL – if you’re really good…
you can even get your readers to
from your Slideshare presentation!
Click the Tweet button!
(Thank @kmullett for that tip)
6. Tip #5 Go PRO
• PRO – offers you advanced analytics and lead
generation! That’s right… insert a form directly in your
Slideshare presentation to capture leads.
It’s only $19 a month!
8. Tip #7 Use Words SPARINGLY
VISUAL – Slideshare is a visual medium. Use only
enough Words to get the point across!
9. Tip #8 Optimize
People find presentations through search engines
and through Slideshare’s internal search… so utilize
keywords effectively in the Slideshare details:
• TITLES
• TAGS
• DESCRIPTIONS
11. Tip #10 Promote! Promote! Promote!
So… it’s finally posted. You’re not done! Promote it
on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, your
blog... EVERYWHERE!
Pssst…
And a few months
later, promote it
AGAIN!
12. Thanks!

10 Proven Tips to Leverage Slideshare by @douglaskarr http://www.marketingtechblog.com
Your title slide is your most important slide. Not only is it key to folks opening it on Slideshare, it’s also key in whether or not Slideshare promotes the presentation on their site. A promoted presentation can achieve tens of thousands of clicks! Don’t be afraid to buy a great background image from a stock photo site. Write your title with a beautiful font (see Tip #2 to find out how to get Slideshare to display it correctly). And work on your title – make it compelling!!!
Slideshare doesn’t do well with custom fonts and layouts. If you build out a beautiful presentation in PowerPoint with unique fonts and layouts, their system probably won’t convert it well. And avoid animations altogether. Once your PowerPoint presentation looks great, just do a File > Save As and you can export each slide as an image. Create a totally new presentation with the images as each slide. Voila! No import issues!
NOTES – are the sections under your slide in PowerPoint. If you fill them in, Slideshare will display them on Slideshare – providing your Slideshare presentation page with additional content that can attract search engine traffic.
Links are converted by the Slideshare system when you embed them in your PowerPoint presentations. Click Tweet on this slide and you’ll see what you can do with it!
Slideshare Pro offers you advanced analytics and lead generation! That’s right… insert a form directly in your Slideshare presentation to capture leads. It’s only $19 a month!
Slideshare continues to enhance profile pages… be sure to fill it all in! Follow your colleagues and even your competition. More followers equates to more views, more sharing and ultimately a better chance of driving business. People want to investigate why they should listen to you – be sure to write a concise bio that dictates your experience and expertise.
Getting wordy can really hurt your presentations. Slideshare is a visual medium… be sure to leverage it that way. Words are not the enemy, though. If you need to have words, don’t hesitate. This isn’t a keynote or a speech… it’s a presentation where people don’t get to see or hear you. Leverage it accordingly.
People find presentations through search engines and through Slideshare’s internal search… so utilize keywords effectively in titles, tags and descriptions.
Add theSlideshare application to your completed LinkedIn profile. Your presentations will add life to your boring LinkedIn page!
So… it’s finally posted. You’re not done yet!Promote it on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, your blog... EVERYWHERE! Pssst…And a few months later, promote it AGAIN! You’ll reach a new audience.
