2. MOHAMMED AL-NASER:
I chose to look at this artists work
because he uses slow shutter
speeds in an interesting way.
Instead of trying to capture any
purposeful movement, the photo
has smoothed out the sea and sky
as they moved more subtly. The
main theme trying to be
addressed in these pieces is the
calm that is shown through a
large passing of time. The clarity
in the segments of the image that
never moved creates a deep
contrast with the rest of the
photograph and give the effect
of remaining constant. The colours
strike me as exaggerated, helping
to express the atmosphere of
speciousness and abstract.
3. MOHAMMED AL-NASER:
I think the artist evokes a sense of
space and calm again through
the use of a slow shutter speed
during either a sun rise or a sun
set. In this image the
photographer has moved closer
to the bridge than he was
before, but still has the rocks of
the shore in the far right. It’s most
likely that the saturation has been
altered in these photos for the sea
and the sky, allowing it to
maintain the sense of surrealism. I
feel this photograph is better than
the first, as moving closer to the
bridge has allowed it to seem
more in focus

I believe the artist evokes a feeling of
space and peace through the use of
the colours and the evidence of time
passing by. The bright use of the star
light creates an extreme sense of
tranquillity. I’m inspired by the artists
use of lines which capture how long
has passed and the effort that went
into this photo. I also feel that the
inclusion of the silhouette of the truck
helps to put into perspective what this
image captures.
5. TOBY KELLER:
Here, I think the photographer
creates a eerie, yet beautiful
atmosphere through the use
of the time of day these were
taken as the sun is low –
making the background
colours quite effective . This is
especially when in contrast to
the light drawing that have
been made through a slow
shutter speed.

7. SARA HEINRICHS:
I feel that the artist has used
the lights in this image in
quite a diverse way, so much
that not only is the attention
on the fairground ride and
the way it has been
captured at a slow shutter
speed, but the people and
how they are brightly lit, as
though they add to the joyful
environment.
8. SARA HEINRICHS:
I believe the artist creates a
sense of nostalgia with
these images as the scene
will always stay the same
but the silhouettes of the
people are faded as though
their time wouldn’t last very
long in comparison. I also
feel as though the bright
colours of the sunset
background clash with the
shaded outlines of the
people to evoke an
experience of fleeting
existence.
9. ANDREW STAWARZ:
I think the artist evokes a
feeling of cosmic
atmosphere of delicacy.
The bold use of light
creates an overwhelming
sense of calm. I am
impressed by the way the
artist managed to capture
the stars in such a way with
a regular apartment
building and trees in the
foreground, yet not in the
entre of the viewers
attention. Doing this really
helps to show the contrasts
that can be seen
throughout every day
because of a matter of
distance.

Here is an artist from You
Tube who created a stop
motion using slow shutter
speeds to create images
through light drawing. To
do this he had multicoloured lights attached to
a music stand on wheels
that would roll past every
shot before he proceeded
to write out the notes with a
small torch. I find it
impressive that such things
can be created, though it
took probably hours and a
few hundred photographs
to make a forty second
video.
