An official source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry on
Wednesday said that the Arab League is an essential part of the war

retreat due to the patience, awareness and sacrifices of the Syrian
people.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Levant Scholars Federation, Mohammad
Tawfik al-Bouti stressed that the foreign sides which are conspiring on
Syria and responsible for what is happening in it are the same sides
which created the extremist Takfiri approach.
6. Pope Francis Renews Call for Peace in Syria
Pope Francis called for establishing peace in Syria through dialogue,
and for backing international efforts to organize the international
conference to solve the crisis there.
Pope Francis said during a meeting of Catholic charitable organizations
on Wednesday ''In the face of ongoing and overwhelming violence, I
strongly renew my appeal for peace."
"In recent weeks the international community has reaffirmed its
intention to promote concrete initiatives to bring about a fruitful
dialogue designed to bring an end to the war. These initiatives are to be
encouraged, and it is hoped that they will lead to peace,'' Pope Francis
added.
The Pope expressed the Holy See's concern over the people who are
suffering due to the armed acts, reminding of Former Pope Benedict's
call for dialogue and ending violence to solve the crisis.
The Pope also said that "the destiny of the Syrian people is a concern
that is close to my heart,'' stressing the important role of the catholic
charitable organizations which are delivering humanitarian aid to the
Syrian people, mainly the refugees in nearby countries.
"My thoughts at this moment also go to the Christian communities who
live in Syria and throughout the Middle East," the Pope said, adding
''the Church supports the members of these communities who today find
themselves in special difficulty.''
7. Moscow: Geneva Conference in July
In statements to the press after the preparatory meeting, Russian Deputy
Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said that the international
conference on Syria will not be held before July, but a second
consultative meeting to prepare for it will be held in June.
Gatilov said the conference will be held after agreement is reached over
all issues related to it, and that the issues that still need to be discussed
will be addressed in a second tripartite meeting between Russia, the UN
and the US.
Brahimi: Political Solution to Crisis in Syria
A tripartite meeting including Russia, the United States and the United
Nations started in Geneva on Wednesday to further the preparations for
the international conference on Syria.
A sourcesaid that the meeting encompasses Russian Deputy Foreign
Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov, US Under Secretary of State for Political
Affairs, Wendy Sherman, UN Envoy to Syria, LakhdarBrahimi.
Brahimi is accompanied by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political

The meeting aims at discussing preparations to hold an international
conference on Syria which was called "Geneva2" and would include
representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition.

Palestinian Factions Demand that Armed Terrorist Groups Leave
Palestinian Camps
The popular committee of al-Yarmouk camp on Wednesday organized a
mass sit-in in front of the camp's entrance in Damascus to mark Naksa
Day, the day commemorating the displacement of the Palestinian people
in 1967.
Participants carried photographs of the martyrs who were killed by
Israeli occupation forces on the outskirts of the occupied Syrian Golan
in 2011 when they were participating in a march, in addition to hoisting
banners demanding that armed terrorist groups leave all Palestinian
camps.
In a statement issued at the sit-in, the Palestinian factions in Syria
asserted that the Palestinian people reject the attempts to displace them
to new exiles, and that they will only leave Syria to return to Palestine.
The statement denounced the attacks and crimes of armed terrorist
groups who ran amok in al-Yarmouk camp, saying that history will
record that these groups displaced hundreds of thousands of
Palestinians.
The Factions demanded that armed group vacate al-Yarmouk camp and
all Palestinian camps immediately, noting that what is happening in the

claim to seek.
The statement asserted that what is happening in Syria affects the
Palestinian cause directly, reiterating the Palestinian people's
commitment to Syria and its security, stability and unity, voicing hope
that the crisis will end soon and that Damascus will remain the heart of
Arabism.
