National Audit Department conducts audits to ascertain whether financial
management of Ministries and Departments was in accordance to
established laws and financial regulations.

43. Auditor General Report 2010
• National Audit Department audited 25 Federal Ministries and 35 Federal
Departments to ascertain whether their financial management was in
accordance to established laws and financial regulations.
• For the year 2010, the financial management performance of 17 Ministries
and 13 Departments were rated as excellent while 8 Ministries and 22
Departments were rated as good.
• In general, the level of financial management of Ministries/Departments in
2010 showed a better performance as compared to 2009. There were 17
Ministries being rated as excellent in 2010 as compared to 10 Ministries in
2009.
• The performance of financial management at the Departments’ level in
2010 was also very encouraging where 13 Departments were rated excellent
as compared to 4 Departments in 2009.
• Besides that, the Headquarters and 14 state branches of the Road Transport
Department as well as 4 Malaysian Missions Offices abroad under the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also audited.
• Results from the audit carried out showed that the overall financial
performance at the Ministries/Departments level for the year 2010 has
improved as compared to year 2009 and previous years.
• These performances can still be further improved

Overall Financial performance
•Federal Government received revenue totalling RM159.65 billion, which is an
increase of RM1.01 billion (0.6%) as compared to RM158.64 billion for the
year 2009.
•It was also reported that loans taken out by the government was reduced by
almost 28% to RM77.23 billion, compared to RM107.17 billion in 2009.
