Don’t Put It Away
Putting God’s word away from us can have terribly bad
consequences. Just how far reaching can the ill effects of this
action be?
Paul made the answer so clear when he spoke to some who
had done this very thing. He declared: “…ye put it from you,
and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life…” (Acts
13:46).
That is plenty plain. If they kept on putting God’s word
away from them, they surely would miss heaven. Paul assured
these people that this would strictly be their own fault.
Why should we think it would be any different with us?
Why would we not heed the powerful lesson taught in our text?
We can put God’s word away from us without removing it
from our sight. Our text speaks of putting it from us in the
sense of not making personal application of its message.
We simply can not afford to miss everlasting life; so neither
can we afford to put God’s word away from us.

EAST MAIN CHURCH OF CHRIST
1606 East Main Street
P. O. Box 1761
Tupelo, Mississippi 38802
“Thou shalt observe to do all that they inform thee”
(Deut. 17:10)
Not Good If Detached
Did you ever notice on a railroad ticket, or
on many coupons of various nature, “Not good
if detached”? The coupon was made of the
same material as the rest of the ticket, was
printed with the same ink, on the same press,
and was kept in the same office and used by
the same company. But it was not good if
detached. Its usefulness, its ability to take you
places, was dependent upon its relation to the
rest of the ticket.
Of how much worth is a church member
detached from the rest of the church? How
much fruit can a branch bear detached from
the vine? How good is your hand when it is
detached from your body? A Christian is one
who stays with the rest of the church. He
cannot serve apart from it. You may be a foot,
a hand, or an eye of the body of Christ, but you
are not worth much to yourself or to anyone
else separated from the church, which is His
body. Did you ever notice just how quickly a
banana gets skinned after it leaves the bunch?
So remember: “Forsaking not the assembling
of yourselves together…” (Heb. 10:25).

  • 1. 4 Hugh Vol. 43 January 9, 2018 Number 2 Don’t Put It Away Putting God’s word away from us can have terribly bad consequences. Just how far reaching can the ill effects of this action be? Paul made the answer so clear when he spoke to some who had done this very thing. He declared: “…ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life…” (Acts 13:46). That is plenty plain. If they kept on putting God’s word away from them, they surely would miss heaven. Paul assured these people that this would strictly be their own fault. Why should we think it would be any different with us? Why would we not heed the powerful lesson taught in our text? We can put God’s word away from us without removing it from our sight. Our text speaks of putting it from us in the sense of not making personal application of its message. We simply can not afford to miss everlasting life; so neither can we afford to put God’s word away from us. --Robert Kingsley ELDERS Mike Childers..............397-6453 Dennis Hallmark .........255-5557 Mark Hitt.....................322-0917 Bobby Lindley.............871-8175 DEACONS Wade Bryan.................419-5552 William Harris.............416-8149 Ricky Lindsey .............844-9944 Jeff Mansel..................871-0357 Harold Roby................844-5431 Joe Smith.....................397-4524 Jimmy Spearman.........840-8957 Michael Wilson ...........891-0891 PREACHER .....................................840-5804 SECRETARY Renee Childers Office...........................842-6116 Fax...............................842-7091 E-MAIL eastmaincoc38804@gmail.com WEB PAGE eastmaincoc.com SUNDAY SERVICES Bible Classes............... 9:45 a.m. Morning Worship...... 10:45 a.m. Evening Worship.........5:00 p.m. Singing or Devotional Last Sunday of the Month MID-WEEK SERVICES Wednesday Classes .....7:00 p.m. EAST MAIN CHURCH OF CHRIST 1606 East Main Street P. • 2. Not Good If Detached Did you ever notice on a railroad ticket, or on many coupons of various nature, “Not good if detached”? The coupon was made of the same material as the rest of the ticket, was printed with the same ink, on the same press, and was kept in the same office and used by the same company. But it was not good if detached. Its usefulness, its ability to take you places, was dependent upon its relation to the rest of the ticket. Of how much worth is a church member detached from the rest of the church? How much fruit can a branch bear detached from the vine? How good is your hand when it is detached from your body? A Christian is one who stays with the rest of the church. He cannot serve apart from it. You may be a foot, a hand, or an eye of the body of Christ, but you are not worth much to yourself or to anyone else separated from the church, which is His body. Did you ever notice just how quickly a banana gets skinned after it leaves the bunch? So remember: “Forsaking not the assembling of yourselves together…” (Heb. 10:25). --Church Bulletin Material from the Scrapbook of Geroge W.
