The Chiropractic Action Team (CAT) is a nonprofit organization that partners with humanitarian aid groups like the Red Cross to provide chiropractic care. CAT has had success partnering with the Italian Red Cross to create chiropractic clinics and educate volunteers on preventing back injuries. The organization is seeking chiropractors to volunteer their time and expertise to help underserved communities and Red Cross volunteers through these partnerships. Chiropractic care can help people thrive by restoring proper function to the body, and CAT aims to promote chiropractic and make a difference through their humanitarian efforts.

Welcome to CAT! MOVING MOUNTAINS…
Dear Colleague,
What does the world need now and where do you fit in? For decades, humanitarian work across this
planet has been synonymous with massive humanitarian aid organizations like Doctors Without Borders, the
World Health Organization, and the Red Cross.
In a world that’s been confronted by so many catastrophic events, the demand for reactive help has
increased dramatically in the past 10 years. In order to be able to continue their movement of helping
people in need, organizations like the Red Cross have started forming partnerships with numerous non-profit
organizations and many healthcare professions like psychiatrists and even physical therapists.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is made up of the International Committee of the
Red Cross (ICRC), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the
186 National Societies all over the globe. Their Movement is guided by the seven fundamental principles:
humanity, impartiality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality. All Red Cross and Red
Crescent activities have one central purpose: to help without discrimination those who suffer and thus
contribute to peace in the world.
Partnerships may grow naturally out of existing relationships between pro bono service providers and
humanitarian aid organizations like the International Red Cross. Since the conclusion of the 2009 Italian
earthquake relief project, the Chiropractic Action Team - CAT has continued to move forward to develop
contacts inside each of the different branches of the International Red Cross Movement and the response
has been overwhelmingly positive.
In Italy a successful follow-up project in 2011 become a key example of how government run organization
like the Italian Red Cross National Society can partner up with private health care practitioners and a non-
profit chiropractic organization to create a program where each work together to improve the health of their
volunteers and make a positive impact on their local communities. In addition to the creation of two
chiropractic clinics inside the Red Cross emergency centers of northern Italy, a lecture series was given
which taught the Red Cross volunteers and staff how best to prevent back injuries in times of crisis or
events related to natural disasters.
As of January 1, 2011, the CAT organization has grown to become an United States tax-exempt 501 (c)3
charity public benefit non profit corporation based in San Diego California. We also have a European branch
office in Bologna Italy. Thanks to the support of Parker University of Dallas, TX and the World Federation
of Chiropractic of Toronto, Canada, CAT has plans to create other Red Cross collaborations in other parts
of the world.
Pro bono work is not only professionally satisfying, but it’s personally satisfying as well. We get a chance
to help people who otherwise wouldn’t have access to our chiropractic health care system or have not yet
experienced it in their country. We as doctors get to experience something unique, outside the private sector
of our normal practices. It is in times of great loss that we realize what is most important to our hearts
and minds, and it is in the deepest adversity that we discover who we really are. There is a saying in
Haiti that ‘behind every mountain, there lies another’, and nothing could be more true for humanitarian and

2. disaster relief organizations. And there is no time better than the present for our profession to get involved
in humanitarian aid; so that we can help others with chiropractic care make it through the next big hurdle.
This is where chiropractic humanitarian efforts fit in. Two of the biggest challenges our profession faces
today is your perceived value and the question of whether or not you are the right person for the job of
saving the world through education and results-driven care. The basic principles of chiropractic state that by
restoring tone and proper function of the body, it will do what it is intended to do: flourish. Isn’t that what
is needed on this planet?
Many have spent their time and money on building a practice full of wealthy people. Their life goals may
serve people who somewhat understand chiropractic, but nothing is changing in the world. You have a
calling to serve and your philosophy can be a catalyst to create change. Change that will provide people
with more opportunities to thrive with proper health as intended. Be the change that you wish to see. When
this feeling is strong enough, there is no choice but to act on it. Dr. Martin Luther King called this the
“fierce urgency of now.” When you find your true calling, connect it with a strong purpose, and take
massive action, mountains will move.
Needy families and individuals in our community go without proper food, shelter, and essential medical care
every day due to a variety of factors including low wages, job loss, injuries, illness, age, domestic violence,
or divorce. While all of us are susceptible to hard times, Red Cross volunteers have been taking care of
these people for decades. They are very special individuals who have decided to dedicate their lives to the
greater good for others in need. Now as doctors of chiropractic, we have an opportunity to take care of
them and make a significant contribution to the humanitarian aid community as members of the Italian Red
Cross make up the largest number of clients we serve.
Would you like to help us make a difference? We need people like you to donate time, energy, and
experience in a variety of areas, including giving health talks and other public speaking events with the Red
Cross, providing adjustments during the Red Cross clinic hours, participation in CAT administrative meetings,
help with individual transportation of participating DCs, and more. Together, we will be able to promote the
growing awareness of chiropractic care many of these families and individuals dedicate their lives to serve in
the Red Cross, but to work toward a brighter future with their community outreach programs in health
education, disaster preparedness, wellness counseling, and volunteer assistance. Members of CAT say they
feel rewarded many times over for the help they provide in making a difference in the lives of others.
There is a major shift happening right now in our profession, both in Europe and in the US with more
Chiropractic non-profit organizations forming and joining together. There has never been a better time to be
a chiropractor. The world is desperately waiting for you to take the lead and help get its inhabitants back
to thriving.

to our cause, or visit our Web site at www.chiroaction.org. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from
you soon!
Sincerely,
