Why is Learning the Abacus Important for Your Child!.pptxUCMAS USA
An ancient tool that has retained its value for several centuries despite the advance of technology must be pretty good right?
The abacus has been used for centuries to teach the fundamentals of numbers and is now being used all over the globe to train young minds in mathematics and rapid mental math.
The main advantage of learning the abacus early on is that it can significantly enhance brain power by improving the brain skills of children early on. When children learn to use an abacus, they use both their hands and a tool with beads to calculate numbers. It is widely believed that the movement of beads using their fingers activates their brain sensors.

4 Reasons Why You Should Enroll Your Child In An After School Math ProgramUCMAS USA
UCMAS is a global after-school mental abacus program for children between 4 and 12 years. They have 6000 centers spread across 80+ countries. It is designed to boost brain power and stimulate young minds using an abacus and mental arithmetic in a way that children find engaging and fun.
What is abacus math?
Abacus is a method used to improve mathematical skills in kids in an intelligent and playful way. It is considered to be the fastest way of learning math thereby helping improve the problem-solving ability in kids.
It’s an ancient multi-sensory calculating tool, that helps kids understand math in an easy and interesting manner. Abacus a Chinese calculator also called “Suanpan” and has been used for more than 2,000 years back.
It consists of a wooden frame divided by a horizontal bar into upper and lower sections. The vertical wires consist of beads from top to bottom. The part of the wire is referred to as heaven or upper deck, and the area below the bar is referred to as “Earth” or lower deck.
In this tool, the lower bead has a value of one and the upper bead has a value of 5. The abacus method is used to perform math problems like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and even extraction of square-roots and cubic roots.
Advantage of Abacus maths
• Higher sense of reasoning power – The abacus learning tool doesn’t need a pencil and paper or mechanical calculators as it relies on visual working memory.
• It improves concentration – it is normal for the child to get distracted especially while they are learning math, but in abacus math, the child gets more focused and starts visualizing the movements of beads in mind. This exercise helps the child to apply the same logic in their day-to-day lives thereby increasing their concentration.
• Development of long- and short-term memory – with abacus the child learns to analyze and solve complex calculations mentally and when they apply the same technique to the other subjects outside mathematics they are in well position to solve it with ease as it keeps the child’s mind sharp.
• Critical thinking skills – abacus math helps the child improve hand-eye coordination which stimulates the right side of the brain. Such child becomes multi-tasking and performs well in other extracurricular activities such as sports, music, and other subjects that enhance mind development and the capability of “thinking out of the box”
• Self–reliance – once the child develops the skill of problem-solving on their own, their sense of confidence grows higher encouraging them to solve the problems one after
INTERACTIVE LEARNING BETTER PREPARES YOUR CHILD.pptxUcmas Canada
Interactive and traditional learning are two educational approaches that have been around for centuries, but in recent years they have become increasingly popular. Both approaches can be used to teach students and help them to develop their knowledge, however they differ in the methods used.
Traditional learning is a more structured approach that relies on lectures or textbooks as the main source of information. On the other hand, interactive learning encourages students to actively participate in their studies by providing them with online tools and activities. This type of learning allows students to gain a deeper understanding of topics as they explore different aspects and extend their knowledge beyond what is taught in traditional classrooms.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Editor's Notes
Online Virtual Adaptive Tutor for Maths Maths-Whizz constantly assesses your child’s ability after every lesson. This is adaptive; depending on how well your child has understood the learning objective, the Tutor will move him/her on to the next level within that topic, or adapt to support your child’s learning so they can achieve this at a later date.
Simulates human tutor behaviour After every question, Maths-Whizz will be checking your child’s performance and offering helps as well as interventions if your child is doing well or needing more assistance.
Individualised, personalised learning As the level is personalised to your child’s ability, it is important that the answers are completed independently. Remember, the Tutor will adapt to support your child’s curriculum needs, so the Tutor needs to understand exactly what your child does and does not know.
Interactive animated lessons Your child will remain engaged with animated exercises, including support from a teaching section at the beginning. It is important that they concentrate during this section as this will demonstrate the methods to achieve this learning objective.
Builds confidence, enjoyment and ability Maths-Whizz is self motivating as your child will receive credits for their hard work and efforts. They can use these to purchase virtual pets, toys and plants from the Whizz shop. (Up to 15 for an exercise, and up to 30 for a test. They can also earn up to 10 credits for Replay or Topic Bank).
Animated exercises begin with a short teaching section explaining the methods, followed by, typically, ten questions. The number of questions does differ on various exercises. Should your child get stuck on a question, they should have a go and try, if it’s incorrect, a visual or text prompt will appear to support them with their learning.
Parents, Teachers and Students all log in from the Whizz homepage (www.whizz.com). Each have their own unique username and password.
When a parent upgrades to a Parent Dashboard, their username will be their email address and they will set up their own personal password.
