City Solicitor John Gannon and ADA Coordinator Carlene Campbell refused to allow this Somerville Disability Commission meeting to be considered an "official public meeting." Their reason? They claimed that the Commission's bylaws did not allow for Saturday meetings! This Commission had been meeting on Saturdays every month since November '07, with Campbell in attendance for most of those meetings. This undue scrutiny was a tactic used by the City of Somerville on at least 3 occasions, to prevent this DisAbility Commission from discussing the Agenda items of "ADA compliance, Self Evaluation, and ADA Transition Planning. " Therefore,, 2/3rds of the Commission quit in May, 2008 and formed the Community Access Project of Somerville.
