Our current Prime Minister, the Honorable Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, has further defined the characteristics of Malaysia in 2020 as aplan for Malaysia to become a high income economy with Gross National Income (GNI) of USD 15,000 by the year 2020
… as well as enhance the social well being of her citizens through inclusiveness by ensuring that every Malaysian can benefit from the prosperity resulting from the country’s development and quality of life for all levels of society in tandem with a strong and sustainable economic growth

We believe that transformative use of ICT is important in realising the 2020 aspiration. In the government’s national transformation agenda, there are 4 pillars that were established together with high goals and targets namely 1Malaysia, Government Transformation Programme, Economic Transformation Programme and the 10th Malaysia Plan NITC’s role as the government’s primary ICT advisor and think-tank is to ensure that the National ICT agenda is aligned with 2020’s ambition.
MOSTI believes that we can support this National Transformation Agenda by achieving our aspiration to make …Malaysia as a vibrant hub for creation of ICT Primarily Driven by Home Grown TechnologiesInfusion of technology across all economic sectors to drive productivity and innovationPervasive use of ICT to increase Quality of Life (QoL) across all communitiesICT adoption as a source of national competitiveness advantage
This slide shows how ICT impacts the ETP. Through analysis by MDeC shows, it is found that:85 of 131 Entry Point Project (EPPs) (65%) are either driven and enabled by ICT while 21 of 60 Business Opportunities (35%) are either driven and enabled by ICT and;5 of 8 SRIs are energised by ICT. These findings show ICT’s significant role in the implementation of the ETP.
This slide shows how ICT impacts the GTP. Through analysis by MDeC it is also found that:25 of 50 New Key Results Areas (NKRA) initiatives (50%) are either driven or enabled by ICT.
To facilitate and drive this national agenda, 9 Strategic Thrusts and the Committees of Experts were established by NITC with the tasks to set the policy direction for the country. Our latest strategic initiative is Digital Malaysia: a holistic plan and digital strategy to realise Digital Malaysia that would contribute to the growth of Malaysia’s economy in years to come.
In summary, ICT plays an important role in supporting the National Transformation Agenda and Vision 2020 and as the secretariat to NITC, the highest ICT advisory body to the Government , MOSTI sets the strategic policy direction to ensure that the National ICT Agenda is aligned with the Vision 2020’s ambition.
