inclusion of the small music note. personal to Katie.
1. In what ways does your media product use, develop
or challenge forms and conventions of real media
                       products?
Develop
My media product develops conventions of real media
products by the use of colour and layout in which relate to
other music magazine on sale today. I have a used a colour
scheme in which is recognised by music magazine buyers and
the layout reinforces this. By the jam packed front cover, and
detailed contents and double page spread my magazine is
similar to others on the market today and would attract an
audience that are interested in the content.
Challenge
My media product however does challenge real media
products by the inclusion of new techniques in which are not
always included in music magazines today. This is through the
use of offering different articles that differ from what
magazine Q and NME offer. For example, Big Top 40 and the
inclusion of different types of music that differs from
  urban, rock theme.
2.How does your media product represent
           particular social groups?
In my opinion, I believe that teenagers and music lovers would
be interested in my magazine. This is because, the magazine I
have create represents that particular social group by the way I
have included appropriate images and text that appeal to that
                           audience.
It represents groups of people that are interested and have a
passion for the urban rock style of music and also enjoy reading
other music magazines such as Q and NME.
3.What kind of media institution might distribute your
              media product and why?
As my magazine is a music magazine, I believe that the type of
institution that would produce it would be a magazine production
company in which has had previous success when producing this kind
of magazine. For example, NME production company: IPC Media, a
media production company who has had high success in the music
                          magazine industry.

By using a company like this my magazine would be sold to a much
wider audience than if I chose a company who has no previous
experience in selling a music magazine. Also by using a company like
IPC Media, they would be able to assist me in what to include in my
                    magazine and what would sell.
4.Who would be the audience for your media product?

The music magazine I have created ‘Louder’, is a up to date music
magazine relating to other music magazine in today’s media
market. The ideas for the magazine came from a variety of different
magazines in which I discovered both through product research and
prior to the main task. These magazines were Q and NME.
Therefore the target audience for my magazines is similar to the
audience that these magazines have and as the teenage ages, 15-18
are the most popular age group for the urban, rock style of
music, this was the age group I wanted to aim my magazine on. I
also included other kind of music in to magazine to make it different
to magazine that are on sale today. Therefore I have included
articles that differ slightly to the ones that I know already sell, for
example: Pop Music. I think by doing this I have opened my
magazine up to a much wider target audience.
5.How did you attract/address your audience

In order to attract and gain interest from my target audience, I
made sure that the magazine I created included the sort of
content that teenagers aged 15-18 would be interested in. For
example, by including recent music, competitions and familiar
colours that readers would associate to music magazine as
they are also used in other successful music magazines, Q and
                                NME.
Another way to attract my target audience was by the use of
images, I purposely chose images included people of the
target audience age group and therefore making the
magazine look young and with a fresh style.
6.What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
I had to learn to use many different pieces of software during the
creation of my media product. These were in order to edit my
pictures, create my evaluation, make the flashes and to make
sure my magazine looked the best it could. To make my magazine
I started off in publishers using the effects within there, however
I chose to change my magazine in to Comic Life as the features
within the software made my magazine look more professional.
Also on top of this, I had to learn how to use Photoshop to edit
my pictures. This was difficult as all of this software was new to
me and I had to use it in complex ways in order to create my
magazine. However from this task I have learnt skills that I will
take away as use in other subjects as well as media.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the
                      full product?
By carrying out the preliminary task, I have learnt a mixture of
different elements in which were important when creating my
                          music magazine:
• Time Management
• Organisation
• Planning
All of these helped me to complete my magazine on time and
enabled me to spend more time on the things that were able
                       to get me more marks.
If I were to complete this task again, what would
                 I do differently?
If I was given the opportunity to complete this task again I
would, firstly include a different colour scheme as I personally
feel that now looking back at my magazine, I have chosen colours
that are predictable in the music magazine industry. If doing the
task again I would spend longer thinking of a colour scheme that
was just as effective, but differed from the traditional, black,
                              white and red.
Secondly, I would include a wider variety of images as the images
I have included, all include girls and therefore I think when
selling this magazine it may come across as a more feminine and
may restrict who buys it slightly as the male target audience may
feel it only includes the type of content women may be
                              interested in.

Also by using a company like IPC Media, they would be able to assist me in what to include in my magazine and what would sell.
  • 8. 4.Who would be the audience for your media product? The music magazine I have created ‘Louder’, is a up to date music magazine relating to other music magazine in today’s media market. The ideas for the magazine came from a variety of different magazines in which I discovered both through product research and prior to the main task. These magazines were Q and NME. Therefore the target audience for my magazines is similar to the audience that these magazines have and as the teenage ages, 15-18 are the most popular age group for the urban, rock style of music, this was the age group I wanted to aim my magazine on. I also included other kind of music in to magazine to make it different to magazine that are on sale today. Therefore I have included articles that differ slightly to the ones that I know already sell, for example: Pop Music. I think by doing this I have opened my magazine up to a much wider target audience.
  • 9. 5.How did you attract/address your audience In order to attract and gain interest from my target audience, I made sure that the magazine I created included the sort of content that teenagers aged 15-18 would be interested in. For example, by including recent music, competitions and familiar colours that readers would associate to music magazine as they are also used in other successful music magazines, Q and NME. Another way to attract my target audience was by the use of images, I purposely chose images included people of the target audience age group and therefore making the magazine look young and with a fresh style.
  • 10. 6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? I had to learn to use many different pieces of software during the creation of my media product. These were in order to edit my pictures, create my evaluation, make the flashes and to make sure my magazine looked the best it could. To make my magazine I started off in publishers using the effects within there, however I chose to change my magazine in to Comic Life as the features within the software made my magazine look more professional. Also on top of this, I had to learn how to use Photoshop to edit my pictures. This was difficult as all of this software was new to me and I had to use it in complex ways in order to create my magazine. However from this task I have learnt skills that I will take away as use in other subjects as well as media.
  • 11. 7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? By carrying out the preliminary task, I have learnt a mixture of different elements in which were important when creating my music magazine: • Time Management • Organisation • Planning All of these helped me to complete my magazine on time and enabled me to spend more time on the things that were able to get me more marks.
  • 12. If I were to complete this task again, what would I do differently? If I was given the opportunity to complete this task again I would, firstly include a different colour scheme as I personally feel that now looking back at my magazine, I have chosen colours that are predictable in the music magazine industry. If doing the task again I would spend longer thinking of a colour scheme that was just as effective, but differed from the traditional, black, white and red. Secondly, I would include a wider variety of images as the images I have included, all include girls and therefore I think when selling this magazine it may come across as a more feminine and may restrict who buys it slightly as the male target audience may feel it only includes the type of content women may be interested in.
