This document discusses different types of filters. It describes high-pass filters, which pass high frequencies and block low frequencies. It also describes low-pass filters, which do the opposite by passing low frequencies and blocking high frequencies. The document provides examples of passive and active low-pass filter circuits and discusses their applications in areas like telephone lines, acoustics, and radio transmitters. The objective is to study the characteristics of passive low-pass filters and measure their cut-off frequency.

2. What is a filter?
A filter or electronic filter is a device which
removes unnecessary information in a signal by
blocking certain frequencies while giving others
free flow.
3. Types of Filters
passive or active
analog or digital
high-pass, low-pass
band-pass
band-stop
4. High Pass Filter
• A high pass filter is a filter which passes high-
frequency signals and blocks, or impedes, low-
frequency signals.
7. LOW PASS FILTER
A low pass filter is a filter that passes low frequency
signal and selectively attenuates higher frequency
signal.
Example:
Digital filters for something sets of data.
Acoustic Barriers.
10. Objective
To Study the characteristics of passive filter by
obtaining the frequency response of low-pass filter
To measure the cut-off frequency, fc of low-pass filter.
To plot the frequency of low-pass filter by using MAT
lab and compare the results with the measurement.
To study the output of waveform when a certain
waveform is apply to the input of the low- pass filter.
A low pass filter is a filter that allows signals with low
frequencies to pass from input to output while
rejecting higher frequencies.
11. RC Low pass Filter
A simple RC low pass filter can be easily made by
connecting to in series resistor with a single capacitor.
In this type of filter arrangement the input signal is
applied to the series combination but the output signal
is taken across the capacitor only.
12. Applications of High-pass Filters
1.These are used in the
loud speakers to reduce
the low level noise.
2.Eliminates rumble
distortions in audio
applications so these are
also called are treble boost
filters.
13. 3.These are used in audio
amplifiers to amplify the
higher frequency signals.
4.These are also used in
equalizers
