Meeting Purpose Tonight’s Purpose: • Provide an overview for the project’s improvements • Provide the public an update on on-going activities related to project, current status, and next steps • Solicit public input and comments regarding project’s improvements Tonight we will answer questions, but please submit all comments in writing to enable them to be part of the public record. 4
  5. 5. Project Background • Locally Funded Project: Est. Project Cost = $7 Million • Roadway realignment will meet VDOT standards, for VDOT maintenance • Bike and pedestrian facility will meet all VDOT & County standards for maintenance and for ADA accessibility compliance. • Part of Community Dialogue on Transportation (2012-2013) • Approved by County BOS on January 28, 2014 5

  7. 7. Project Overview Existing conditions: • Sharp substandard horizontal curve on Burke Road • Sight distance issues • Crash History in Project Limits • 10 reported crashes between 01/2011 and 12/2016 * *As Reported by VDOT 7
  8. 8. Project Overview Existing conditions: • Roadway flooding • Existing culvert is undersized • Two-Year storm overtops roadway. Required to pass 10 year storm event • Fairfax Police have responded to 5 road flooding events over the last 18 months • No continuous pedestrian or bike facilities 8

Proposed Design 10 Proposed Design: • Roadway realignment to meet design standards, improve sight distance and remove sharp hazardous curve • Street intersections: Improved lines of sight • New Box Culvert: Proposed quadruple box culvert to address roadway flooding issues • Curb & Gutter and storm sewer system to minimize property impacts, tree loss, & preserve on-street parking
