Description:
The Mason Neck West Park Pond Retrofit project was substantially completed on May 1, 2015. The project consisted of
retrofitting the stormwater pond to improve water quality and to increase the volume of the pond to hold more water.
Project Overview:
• Retrofit the existing stormwater pond to increase capacity and improve water quality
• Extend the inflow paths throughout the pond to the maximum extent possible
• Installation of forebays to remove sediment as stormwater enters the facility
• Construct wetlands in the pond bottom where plants will further remove sediment and take up nutrients
• Planted native plants, trees and shrubs to promote reforestation
• Reduction of 23 lbs of total nitrogen per year, 5 lbs of total phosphorus per year, and 975 lbs of sediment per year
