0.1. INTRODUCTION
The raining season has started and farming activities have begun. This
will be a challenge for the village parents, they will seek helping hands
from the children. And this will create also a low patronage to the
community libraries. However, this monthly report covers the activities
and events that took place within the month of May. I was able to visit the
libraries that is the Gowrie-Kunkua community library and that of the
Sherigu Community libraries. Within the month too the library activities
were carried on positively. In this report we will present the happennings
of Sumbrungu, Gowrie-Kunkua and Sherigu Community libraries
respectively.
0.2. THE SUMBRUNGU COMMUNITY LIBRARY.
For this month we have recorded low number of patronage in both day
and night sessions. This is because some of the library users assist their
parents on the farms as a new farming season has just began and most of
the senior high students are at school at the moment. And some days the
rain prevents those who wish or are free to come to the library.
The activities for the month of May included; individual reading,
storytelling, group reading, games, and video show.
3. 3
Patrons love reading ‘Tetteh the tadpole’ during group reading. They
read it in groups.
On 27th
may, 2022, we had a video show in the library and the title of the
video was ‘The gods must be crazy II’, patrons loved the movie very much
that they laughed together while watching. The purpose of the video was
to entertain and help encourage them to come to the library always.
The month of May, is the time the farming season starts over here which
patrons also help their parents get their various farms ready for a new
farming season, so most of our patrons usually come at night to read in
the library
We hope to provide for the Sumbrungu Community Library more
furniture and text books for junior and senior high schools, as well as more
African story books and games.
Individual reading was done in the
library with patrons both day and
night times of times, the children
consulted the librarian for help
whenever they cannot pronounce or
spell while reading.

0.3. SHERIGU COMMUNITY LIBRARY
During this month’s activities, there were encouragement in the library
in terms of attendance and participation. A good number of our library
user’s came both day time and night time to patronize. The adult males
were, adult females, children males and children females and at the end
of the month, I had recorded high number of library user’s.
They were a lot of activities that were carried out in our community
library. They included group reading, individual reading, playing of
games like ludu, ampe and visitation to the nearby schools. Some of
the books that were read during our group reading were ‘Amazing
Grace’, ‘Amoako and the Forest’, ‘Diana a hairdresser learns to read’,
‘Veronica a caterer Learns to read’, ‘Kente for a king’, ‘Once upon a
time’, ‘Mandy’s revenge’, ‘Kofi and the sack of sticky feathers’,
‘Akosua's gift just to mention a few’. I personally read books such as
Dancing queen, Fati and the honey tree, Kente for a king.

The libraries coordinator and the librarian also visited the Dorongo JHS
and Sherigu JHS and Primary School to educate them about the library
in their community and also to form reading groups among them.
The libraries coordinator in the person of Mr. Benedict was the only
visitor recorded in the course of the month with the purpose of his usual
visit of monitoring the library and also patronizing the library in the
nearby schools.

We forward in providing the library some detergents and more games
articles.
0.4. GOWRIE-KUNKUA COMMUITY LIBRARY
This month ended without a single problem. Every library users in
Gworie-kunkua community library think this month is the month of
growth for the library, as far as the library club brings together the
children to the library to read and learn. This affirms the statement that
‘anything that starts well will automatically end well’. This presents a
challenge to the librarian and its team to work hand in hand with
coordinator to get every challenge resolved.
The library users have started to show their great interest for the library
by attending the library activities on due time and also made good use
of their time in the library.
The village children now use more of the library as their center of
learning. Sherigu village children are out to patronize the library hours.
During my visit to the far away from the library, schools the
headteachers expressed their positive interest to work in way that the
books can research their schools too as far as their people cannot
research the library because of the distance.
7. 7
The electricity problem is not yet fixed, that affects the night time.
Even the ceiling of the library is not yet worked on. That also
causes heat during the hot season and noise when it rains.
On the aspect of the library’s activities, it said that, ‘several practice
make people better’. So, the talented people always had their ambitions
come through constant practices. So this brings out the need for every
library users in the library to get involve in any activity that takes on in
the library or outside the library.
A lot of games were played both competitive and non-competitive
games like ludo, oware, cross word cubes, draughts, cards and puzzles.
Also the Classroom Group Reading pilot (school library times) in
kunkua primary school are still going on. It is very interesting since we
introduced these activities in the schools. The book that we started with
them was ‘Kente for a King’ by Kathy Knowles.

8. 8
As usual, the library had a great number of parents and guardians
visiting this month to monitor their children in the library. Also our
managing director/coordinator in the person of Mr. Benedict also paid
a number of visit both the schools and the library for supervision and
monitoring.
0.5. MONTHLY GENERAL MEETING
In this month we had our general meeting of librarians to put our second
four month program together. We were able to put the activities
together in a table to guide our events. We welcome another new
librarian, in the person of Marinus Amoah Anaba into the team and also
said good bye to Asanga Joseph who had an appointment with the
Ghana Police Service. I took that as an opportunity to take the librarians
through the library ethics.
