It proceeds with identifying some of the competitors for ExxonMobil. The SWOT prior to the merger is also presented together with some risks, issues and criticisms.   3. 3. Exxon Mobil History • John D. Rockefeller and partners formed the Standard Oil Company of Ohio in 1870 • In 1882,Rockefeller and partners formed the Standard Oil Trust to unify what then numbered about 40 companies.
