On January 28, 2014, Mayor
William A. Flanagan hosted a
press conference to announce a
partnership with Foxwoods
Resort Casino of Connecticut to
bring a $750 million resort
casino to Fall River. The
proposed plan includes a
casino, hotel, spa, convention
center, entertainment venue,
and multiple restaurants, which
would create 3,000 to 5,000
jobs.

and are accepting structured
offers from current land
owners. In an effort to facilitate
this process, Mayor Flanagan
has established a real estate
committee of local leaders,
which is chaired by Attorney
Kenneth Fiola, Jr., the Executive Vice President of the Fall
River Office of Economic
Development. Foxwoods
would like to have land under
agreement by mid-March.

Mayor Flanagan stated “This
project will create thousands of
jobs for Fall River residents and
add tens of millions of dollars
in additional revenue for our
community.” The Mayor
further stated, “Fall River
residents will have priority and
preference on every job that is
generated from this project.”
Foxwoods CEO and President
Scott Butera was also on hand
at the press event to express
Foxwoods’ interest in becoming
part of the Fall River community noting that resort casinos
have proven to be “economic
engines” for the communities
which they inhabit.

Attorney Fiola is cautiously
optimistic that a suitable
location will be identified for
the project noting, “I am
hopeful that the private sector
will help us identify an
appropriately sized parcel so as
to enable the hard working
people of this community an
opportunity for continued job
growth and economic diversity.
In addition to raising millions
of dollars in new real estate tax
revenue for the city, this resort
destination casino project will
represent thousands of much
needed direct and indirect job
opportunities for the residents
of Fall River and the surrounding communities.”

Foxwoods is currently looking
for 30+ acre parcels to accommodate their resort casino plan

Taphouse Grille: Great Food at Affordable Prices
Since its debut on South Main
Street, the Taphouse Grille
has been known as much for
its bar scene and entertainment as its food. However,
owner John Aguiar along with
his new partners, Keith Parker
and Phil Pinto decided to
focus the energy of the restaurant on providing good, quality food at an affordable price
in an enjoyable atmosphere.
Right in the heart of downtown, Taphouse now focuses
on creating a family-friendly
atmosphere with the mantra
that you don’t have to leave
Fall River to get great food at
reasonable prices. On the
topic of good food the
Taphouse menu ranges from
steamed mussels and Italian
breaded ravioli appetizers to
entrée salads and burgers to

to their signature Taphouse
steak tips and seafood
mixed grille. In terms of
affordability, every menu
item is under $15.
To further promote good
food at affordable prices,
the Taphouse will be
running a promotion from
the second week of
February until the end of
April where patrons can
receive one appetizer and
two entrees for $29.99. To
participate in this special
patrons are asked to visit
taphousegrille.com and
print one of the promotional
vouchers. While a voucher
is required to participate in
the special, patrons are welcome to utilize the special
as often as they would like
throughout the

promotional period. In
addition to the promotion,
Taphouse also offers
express lunches with 15
menu items under $10,
ready in less than 15
minutes. Great for busy
professionals on the go!
While the Taphouse has
moved away from its
entertainment focused, bar
atmosphere, it still
maintains a free
entertainment component on
Friday and Saturday nights.
The entertainment will
feature 2-3 piece bands and
many acoustic performers
for easy listening to enhance
your dining experience.
Attorney Kenneth Fiola, Jr.,
Executive Vice President of

the Fall River Office of Economic Development commends the restaurant owners
for the work they have done to
re-establish the Taphouse,
noting, “based on our market
studies there is a lot of money
leaving the City for dining
purposes, we need to capture
that market and get them to
appreciate Fall River as the
culinary capital of the Southcoast, which is exactly what
the Taphouse aims to do.”
The Taphouse offers a full
dinner menu Sunday through
Thursday 11am to 11pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to
1am. For additional information about the Taphouse,
please visit their website at
