4. Paramount Pictures are extremely well known as they are one
of the six main film production companies in the world. They
produce a massive variety of films so there are no major
distinctions between them. Paramount is a subsidiary of
Viacom, a major media conglomerate.
Napoleon Dynamite’s original production companies were just set
up for the film, hence the name “Napoleon Pictures” so they have no
other work to compare the film to. This is because it was an
independent film. However it was acquired by a major production
company, Fox Searchlight Pictures (a sister company of 20th Centurt
Fox. Searchlight specialises in distributing American and British
independent films aswell as “dramedy and horror.
5. Paramount Pictures is famous a massive variety of
films, such as Mission Impossible, the Marvel
Cinematic Universe films, Indiana Jones and Star Trek.
All of these were very successful.
Fox Searchlight Pictures is famous for films such as
Slumdog Millionare, Juno and Black Swan. As stated
early these are independent films that are picked
up, so it’s very different to paramount.
6. Both of these production companies don’t really have a
specific audience that they appeal to. However as Fox
Searchlight often produce independent films it could be
said that most of their films appeal to somewhat
older/teenage audience, as most of their productions are
not children’s films in any aspect.
Paramount definitely has no definitive audience as it
produces such a massive variety of films, ranging from
superheroes to horror, but does often produce action films
which appeal to predominately the male audience.
7. It’s very hard to say, as the term is rather subjective. Fox Searchlight
is a sister company of 20th Century Fox and is mainly a producer of
smaller, independent films and does not go for big budget, massive
thrillers as that’s more the role of 20th Century. So it is successful it
it’s own right as it does produce some exceptionally good
independent films but obviously some poorer ones as well.
Paramount produces almost all types of films, so it’s clearly makes
more revenue than Searchlight which could be termed as more
successful. However Paramount generally produces more big budget
films which have the possibility to flop and generate a massive loss of
profit. Overall one can’t really say because the two companies have
different goals and can’t be compared.
