What do you mean by sex education ?
▰ Sex education is the instruction of issues relating to human sexuality, including
emotional relations and responsibilities, human sexual anatomy, sexual activity,
sexual reproduction, age of consent, reproductive health, reproductive rights, safe
sex, birth control and sexual abstinence.
▰ Sex education is high quality teaching and learning about a broad variety of topics
related to sex and sexuality, exploring values and beliefs about those topics and
gaining the skills that are needed to navigate relationships and manage one's
own sexual health.
Reasons to enhance sex education
▰ Failure of Abstinence-Only Education
▰ Teens Need to Know Safer Options
▰ Sex Ed Doesn't Increase Sex
▰ 1 in 2 Teens Have Had Sex
▰ Start Safe and Stay Safe
▰ Teach Boys to Be Good Men
▰ Parents Teach Moral Values
▰ Know Means No
Tell your kids how their bodies are going to
change when they mature
▰ Don't wait for your child to come to you with questions
about his or her changing body — that day may never
arrive, especially if your child doesn't know it's OK talk
to you about this sensitive topic.
▰ Ideally, as a parent, you've already started talking to
your kids about the changes our bodies go through as
we grow. Since the toddler years, kids have questions
and most of your discussions probably come about as
the result of your child's inquiries.
▰ It's important to answer these questions about puberty
honestly and openly — but don't always wait for your
child to initiate a discussion. By the time kids are 8
years old, they should know what physical
and emotional surgery are associated with puberty.
That may seem young, but consider this: some girls are
wearing training bras by then and some boys' voices
begin to change just a few years later.
Discuss what sexual desire is and how to best
manage it.
▰ Most teenagers will experiment with sexual behaviour at some stage – this is a
normal, natural and powerful urge in these years. But not all teenage
relationships include sex.
▰ Teenagers are also maturing emotionally and socially. They might want romantic
intimacy and ways to express love and affection. And they might be curious and
want to explore adult behavior.
▰ Some teenagers are sexually attracted to people of the opposite gender, some are
attracted to people of the same sex, and some are bisexual.
▰ Sexual attraction and sexual identity aren’t the same. Young people who are same-
sex attracted might or might not identify as gay, lesbian or bisexual. They might
identify as heterosexual. Sexual attraction is also different to their gender identity,
which is a person’s sense of who they are – male, female, both or neither.
Teach them how babies are made and about
sexually transmitted diseases and birth
control.
▰ It is important for parents to talk to their kids and teens about STDs (sexually
transmitted diseases). Your kids need to understand how STDs spread and how to
protect themselves.
▰ STDs (also called sexually transmitted infections, or STIs) are infections that spread
through sex (vaginal, oral, or anal).
▰ Tell your kids everything at the right age about how babies are made and tell them
how can we control them.
▰ There are many protections like condoms, birth control pills etc.
Inform them that other kids and adults may try to take
advantage of them sexually, and teach them how to assert
themselves as soon as they feel the “ick factor.”
▰ It’s not acceptable to scare your kids with stranger danger stories. However, it is
critical that you teach them caution. Surveys estimate that up to 30% of 16 years old
have received a sexting request. Based on my mothering and clinical experience, I
believe these numbers are actually higher. Screen media has opened an
informational portal to your children that is barely regulated. Even with the best
filtering and monitoring strategies in place, your kids will eventually be approached
by someone looking to take advantage of them. Tip: rather than discover that your
child has participated in a sexual online activity AND THEN reacting, be
preventative by teaching assertiveness skills. That means boys and girls must be
taught to attend to their feelings and respond with confidence.
Real life examples how kids take advantage of
puberty.
▰ Children these days think that the urge of sex for them is a very serious issue in
their social life. They can’t share these feelings with anyone so they decide to harass
girls and make out what they want. They try to manipulate girls for doing this, even
sometimes girls are no less than boys they try to manipulate boys. There are many
real life happenings.
▰ A 19-year-old Dalit woman from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district, some
200km from Delhi, died on Tuesday morning, nearly two weeks after she was gang-
raped and brutalised by four men near her village.
Conclusion
▰ In the end I would like to say that, give the best education to your kid regarding sex
education. It is something that will keep your kid away from doing bad things. Like
this the count of such kids will increase and our country will be free from rapes,
murders etc. Boys and girls both are equal, not only boys but also teach your girls
not to tease boys.
Thank You !!
