3. Soon they ran into a groovy looking chick
with an ipod in her ears.
Hi, she waved. My name’s Algo Rhythm.
You can call me Allie.
Mop asked Allie which was the way to the
Land of Beulah.
Hi, Allie waved again. ‘My name’s Algo
Rhythm. You can call me Allie.’
Mop thought perhaps that Allie wasn’t
able to hear him, because of the iPod. He
removed the phones, which set off such a
strange chain reaction that it made Mip
jump. Allie’s formerly long dark ringletted
hair became short, straight and blonde.
Her top teeth grew sideways out of her
mouth, like a sabre-tooth pussycat.
4. Hi, she waved. ‘My name’s Algo Rhythm. You can call me Allie.’ Pant, pant.
Mip decided to get brave. She reached out and pulled Allie’s short blonde hair. Instantly there was
a confusion of noise and shapes, and presently Allie was lying on her back with her arms and legs
waiving in the air. She was a tortoise.
‘Hi’, she wriggled. ‘My name’s Algo Rhythm. You can call me Allie.’ Wriggle wriggle.
‘She’s not helping’, Mip decided. ‘Let’s go.’
5. We can’t just leave her like this, Mop protested. They helped Allie up the
right way, but that just set off another reaction. Then another, and
another. When they had transformed her into a semblance of something
comfortable-looking (a child smoking a pipe), they left her. It took some
time before they ceased to hear Allie’s refrain behind them.
Presently another creature approached them. It said:
Hi. My name’s Petunia. You can call me Nu-nu.
They considered their options circumspectly. Petunia was holding out her
arms straight, on either side of her body. Hesitantly, Mop touched one of
them.
6. Vanity Fair, Slough of Despond, Turnstile, Hocus-Pocus, Petunia recited.
Feeling more confident, Mip reached for the other arm.
Doubting Castle, Delectable Mountains, Land of Beulah, Celestial City,
came the automated response. And you can get three free tries at Texas

They walked on.
Hi. My name’s Petunia. You can call me Nu-nu, they heard her say behind
them.
I guess they just have the one trick, Mop mused.
Some of them are more complex, Mip replied.
More coral appeared.
