Year 7 Outline Unit Name Brief Outline Baseline assessment Photo and video stimulus to provi description of places seen. Complete the sentence, use of vocab. Shared Criteria. Amazing Places Based on the  RGS Fantastic Places  exploration of great places around the world while exploring physical and human processes at a basic level. Excitement about geography. Our Place Exploring Portsmouth and the local area – pattern of settlement, why is Portsmouth here, local fieldwork during lessons, sustainability introduced. Group work – design own development in the area. Map skills incorporated Weather mini unit Microclimate enquiry – Priory School has no effect on its microclimate. Group work. On site fieldwork. Place mini unit Is Priory School Sustainable? Incorporating fieldwork visit to Sparsholt Farm? Enquiry unit with assessment recommending changes. Explore Climate Change, evidence, carbon footprints,  Sport Exploring interconnection through a sporting context – links to the world. Clothing manufacture, effect of the Olympics, economic geography (PST), PFC stadium location pesentation.
Year 8 Outline Unit Name Brief Outline Welcome to the Jungle What are the rainforest like? Distribution of natural environments.  What is happening to the rainforests and how are pupils linked to them? Hat would they do? People of the rainforest Paradise Lost Tourism unit linked to rainforest through eco tourism. Based on RGS scheme but also considering tourism in Portsmouth Is our coastline sustainable? Are we ready for a change in sea level? Based on Geog@work book – local fieldwork to Portsmouth sea defences. Physical processes. Mexico/USA Migration Case study of migration from Mexico to the USA. Mid KS3 assessment point Place Unit India or China Is it a Gangsta’s Paradise? Crime unit linked to Antarctica, Aral Sea etc Cool Geography Linked to the end of Crime unit – place study about  Antarctica and high mountain areas such as the Alps and Himalayas.
Year 9 Outline Unit Name Brief Outline Restless Earth Unit exploring the concept of disasters and looking at volcanic eruptions and their effect on people. Extended Homework. Impossible Places Based on the RGS unit of work – includes local fw possibilities and independent enquiry  Am I an eco saint or eco sinner? Exploring food miles and carbon footprints in more depth. Possible mini-unit. Consumption, water usage. Create a blog to keep a diary? Geogpages scheme for a start. Who wants to be a Billionaire? Based on RGS unit of work – considering development issues, trade and aid.  China Independent enquiry Structured enquiry based upon pupils choice of topic. Come up with geographical questions
