The Titanic was an 883-foot passenger liner built by White Star Line that set sail from Queenstown, Ireland on its maiden voyage to New York on April 11, 1912 carrying over 2,200 people. In the early morning of April 15th, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank within three hours, resulting in the deaths of over 1,500 people as there were not enough lifeboats for all aboard. The wreck of the Titanic was rediscovered in 1985 on the ocean floor over 2 miles deep.
