  4. 4. The sport was originally considered too dangerous of a sport for women. It became socially acceptable because women were allowed to play croquette and lawn tennis.

  6. 6. History Behind The Game<br />In 1901 Field Hockey was introduced to Americans at Harvard University<br />Started in the Olympics in 1908. The International Hockey Federation was formed. By the early 1970’s, 72 countries belonged to the federation.<br />Women’s hockey became a medal sport in 1980.<br />Today, there are 19,000 players, coaches, officials and fans who are members of U.S. Field Hockey Association. <br />Photo by usfieldhockey.com<br />

  14. 14. Object Of The Game<br />To hit the ball from within the striking circle, through the opponent’s goal, to score points. <br />The team with the most goals at the end of the game, wins.<br />Field hockey games are divided into two halves, each lasting between 25 and 35 minutes long. <br />
  15. 15. Object Of The Game<br /><ul><li>You are only allowed to have 11 players on the field including the goalie.
  16. 16. There are normally 4 forwards, 3 Midfielders, and 3 Defenders.</li></li></ul><li>Basic Rules Of the Game:<br /><ul><li>The ball is moved towards the goal by use of the stick, using only the flat left-hand side.
  17. 17. If you are caught using the round side of your stick it will result in a penalty.
  18. 18. The ball may not be raised or lifted into another player.
  19. 19. If the ball is hit into your feet or the other teams, it will result into a free hit.
  20. 20. The ball is not allowed to hit your foot. </li></li></ul><li>Rules Of The Game:<br /><ul><li>Obstruction- A player cannot obstruct if he is stationary, no matter which way he is facing.
  21. 21. All free hits within 5yds of circle - everyone must be 5 yards away.
  22. 22. Accidental infraction by defender in circle or intentional infraction inside 25 yd line penalty conner.
  23. 23. Penalty Conner- Is when there are 5 people in the goal including the goalie on one team, and the other team is on the 16 yd line circle. Normally there is 8 people on the circle and the rest are in the backfield. The ball is then pushed out by the attacker from the 10 yard post side and the defender will run out.
