Evaluation q4
1. Q4: How did you use new media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages?
By: Gokce Aksakalli
2. YouTube
I used various different software's during the process of
making the teaser trailer, mainly for researching. The
software's i used were;
I used YouTube numerous times throughout my research and
planning. The strengths of using YouTube was i was able to
view the official teaser trailers of other films and analyse
them. Through YouTube i explored and analysed our main
inspiration, a real media product, 'The Girl On The Train'
teaser trailer. Similarly, I was able to upload our final teaser
trailer onto YouTube as a record of my work which can be
viewed by anybody worldwide, this was also effective when
receiving feedback from our audience as they were able to
view it anywhere at any time and give feedback on how we
can improve and develop.
3. SlideShare
Slideshare was another very useful software which i used a number of times during my project. As a
group we first used this software to present our initial ideas for our new product to our audience
which was a part of receiving audience feedback. Receiving our target audiences feedback was vital
and very important to us as we got an insight of how our audience felt and thought about our new
product. Similarly, I also used Slideshare to present my work on my blog, Mahara, in which I was able
to create work about teaser trailer analysis and embed on my blog very easy and quickly.
4. Prezi
Another software being Prezi had a lot of benefits for when me
throughout my project. I used this software for my genre
research. Prezi allowed me to be creative with my work,
through the wide range of template choices and i was able to
upload videos, images and symbols which allowed me to give
examples through the use of images and express my thoughts
very effectively. Furthermore, it was very simple and easy to use
which helped me to save time and complete my work in a stress
free way. as well as easily embed my work onto my blog.
5. Storyboardthat.com
I used this software to create a visual
representation of our ideas and what we imagined
and visioned. This software was perfect to do this
as it enabled us to be creative and show our ideas
by offering a very wide range of images and other
applications in which we could select the type of
character, their hair colour, position and clothing
etc. It was very simple, clear and straight forward to
use enabling me to get use to using it very quickly
without it being a hassle.
6. Email
Through the use of email we were able to get music copyright
confirmation from the licensing co-ordinator of The Evanescence,
'Bring Me To Life' by communicating with them and filling out forms
to get confirmation from the licensing coordinators. Email as a
software was very useful as we were able to communicate effectively
with the team. Due to using email we were able to receive a very quick
response from them which resulted in us not wasting time and
managing to contact the team and get permission to use their music
for our teaser trailer.
7. Powtoon
I used Powtoon to present our ideas of the characters
costume within our teaser trailer and present our audiences
feedback on my blog. The benefit of the software was it
enabled be to be creative and present my work in a different
format which made it much more interesting my allowing me
to add images, music and transitions. Powtoon was different
to PowerPoint however the disadvantage was it was more
difficult to use and get use to due to the different techniques
it had and I was not able to embed my presentation straight
to my blog as it caused an error and was not visually available
on my blog. Therefore instead, I had to upload it to YouTube
and embed on my blog which was quite time consuming.
However, overall, i was very pleased with the outcome of my
presentation.
8. BBC Weather
In order to keep updated with the weather forecast for our filming day, i accessed the BBC
weather to check up on the weather conditions. The website was very important and useful as
during our filming day our shots were planned to be filmed mostly outdoors, therefore in order
to prepare for bad conditions we made sure by viewing on the website.
9. Mahara
I used Mahara at all stages of my project to create a blog and write a journal throughout my project
in order to keep a record of the process. It was very beneficial in terms of being able to embed work
from other software's, upload images as well as writing a journal itself.
10. Bensounds.com
Using Bensounds.com we were able to download
music and other sounds from the online website
and use it for our teaser trailer during the editing
stage. We downloaded a sound that fitted in
perfectly with out production ident. The process
was very easy and simple and we were able to
download it within seconds.
12. Canon 550D camera
We used a DSLR camera to shoot our scenes for our teaser trailer
on the filming day. The benefits of this camera was it had a
viewpoint so we were clearly able to see what shot we were getting.
Also it had grid lines for us to get the best composition and an idea
of where we had to place the characters etc. This enabled us to get
better compositional shots. Furthermore, the 18.0 megapixel digital
single-lens reflex camera allowed us to get very good quality videos
and images as well as the auto focus improved the focus
automatically which was very useful. Therefore, it had a lot of
benefits to us during our filming.
13. • Three point lighting kit- Whilst we shot the
indoor shots and scenes the lighting was very dark and
was not high quality. Hence, we used a three point
lighting kit, that allowed us to get a clearer and better
shot as we were able to positions the lighting kits
anywhere we liked and thought looked best to get the
best scenes as well as being able to change the
brightness of the lighting.
• Light reflector- Whilst filming outside, the weather
was partly sunny and cloudy therefore, the lighting
changing throughout the day. in order to have a
continuity throughout the scenes and get a good
lighting we used a light reflector. It was very useful,
especially when shooting images for our magazine and
poster cover. Another benefit of this piece of
was, it was very light weight making it easy to carry as
well as very compact, making it much more easier
continuously changing locations. Furthermore, it
improved the lighting of our shots especially when it
came to editing the scenes and adding special effects
because, it did not make the scenes blurry or grainy.
14. • Extra batteries- on our filming day we has a couple of extra batteries packed in the
camera case, this was a vital piece of equipment, as we continuously had to change
location and were out from the studio for 8 hours. Therefore, it was very important to
have extra batteries as it helped us save time as well as being long lasting which was
very useful.
• Flash memory card- In order to store the different shots and videos a memory
card is essential. This also made it much easier to access the photos and videos on a
computer, ready for the editing stage.
16. •iMac- Using the i macs we were able to access the internet to carry out
all our research as well as to access our blogs. Also, the software's
downloaded onto the iMacs such as Photoshop and Final Cut Pro
enabled us to edit our work and produce a teaser trailer as well as
Adobe Photoshop, allowed us to edit and Photoshop images to create
our ancillary products being the film magazine and poster.
•Mobile phone- We used a mobile phone to record live audio for the
voice over to be used in our teaser trailer and download it on the iMac.
•Headphones- During our editing and written evaluation stage we used
headphones to be able to clearly hear the sounds that we were using
for our teaser trailer. Using headphones made it much easier to hear
even the quieter sounds in our teaser trailer. Moreover, I also used it
when adding and editing a voice over for my evaluation.
18. •Adobe Photoshop CC 2015- Photoshop was a
very important software we used, because we
edited and photo shopped as well as created
our ancillary products, being the magazine and
poster on the software. Photoshop enabled to
be creative by having many different features
on it to manipulate images which was perfect
for what we wanted to do.
•Final Cut Pro- We used Final Cut Pro during
the construction of our teaser trailer and at the
evaluation stage to give a visual analysis. When
constructing the teaser trailer, the software
allowed us to add effects, manipulate add
sounds, as well as create a company ident.
