  2. What is censorship? • Censorship can be broadly defined as the suppression of knowledge or ideas. They are used by Governments or organizations to prevent the circulation of material. In wartime information about troop activities, future battle plans etc., will be censored. In peacetime censorship can be more problematic and controversial

A brief history on Film Censor • Film Censorship was set in motion in India when the Cinematograph Act 1918 was made. • Censor Board were according to set up in Bombay, Calcutta , Madras , Rangoon and Lahore. All appointed by Government. • They consist Commissioner of police, the Collector and tree prominent citizens representing the Hindu, Muslim and other community.
