Goal scored directly from a Corner kick. The name dates from 2 October 1924, when Argentina's CesáreoOnzari scored against Uruguay, who had just won the 1924 Olympic title. The only Olympic goal in the World Cup finals was scored for Colombia by Marcos Coll, beating legendary goalkeeper Lev Yashin in a 4–4 draw with the Soviet Union in 1962.

FIFA officially credited Bert Patenaude of the US team as the scorer of the 1st World Cup hat-trick. Patenaude achieved his feat in the match against Paraguay in the inaugural World Cup in 1930. The 2nd goal he scored was mistakenly credited as an ‘Own goal’ by Aurelio González of Paraguay and it was widely believed that the 1st WC hat-trick was scored by Guilermo Stabile of Argentina who achieved his feat against Mexico two days after Bert’s feat.

Robert Prosinecki of Croatia. He is the only player in World Cup history to score for two different national teams. He scored one goal for Yugoslavia in a group match against the United Arab Emirates and eight years later he added two goals for Croatia by scoring in a group match against Jamaica and in the third place match against the Netherlands. He played in a total of nine World Cup matches, three for Yugoslavia in 1990 and six for Croatia in 1998 and 2002.

14) At the tender age of 14 he made his 1st team debut against Barcelona in 1983 showing remarkable skill and irreverence when he nutmegged Diego Maradona not once but twice. German Football federation formed the Bundesliga on 28th July 1962 to professionalize German Football hardly a month after the German defeat to Yugoslavia on June 10th.

Haller who had been second best in the Final had secured the Match ball which by tradition is entitled to a hat-trick scorer and that was Geoff Hurst. Haller returned to England in 1996 to present it to Hurst who was the conventional owner.

The Brazilian goalkeeper Walter de Souza Goulart, who was famous for hypnotizing his opponents and for saving penalties back in Brazil, arrogantly claimed he was certain he would save the shot. Giuseppe Meazza, another Italian striker stepped up to take the kick and without much fuss got it past a confused Walter. who failed to react. Now tell me what confused the Goalkeeper?

While he was about to take the kick Meazza’s shorts fell down because the elastic around the waist had earlier been pulled and ripped by a defender. Meazza, without letting this stress him, pulled up his shorts with one hand and shot past the confused Walter, who was still busy laughing. His celebrating team-mates surrounded him until a new pair of shorts was brought in.

Wembley was also a regular venue for greyhound racing. Wembley's owner's refusal to cancel the regular greyhound racing meant that the match between Uruguay and France in the 1966 World Cup had to be played at White City.

After all of Israel’s opponents withdrew for political reasons, FIFA decided that Israel would have to meet one of the teams that had been eliminated. Wales won the lottery after Belgium declined and the Welsh qualified by beating Israel twice.

SS Conte Verde, Four national football (soccer) teams were transported to Montevideo by the Conte Verde for the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930: Romania, France, Belgium, and Brazil. The Romanian team boarded in Genoa, the French delegation (including FIFA president Jules Rimet) boarded in Villefranche-sur-Mer, the Belgian team boarded in Barcelona, and the Brazilian team boarded in Rio de Janeiro. The trophy and three referees, Jean Langenus, Henri Christophe, and Thomas Balway also crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the ship.
