How Four Women Control their symptoms of stress and eliminate future illnesses.
By Susan Hansen
Instructor
Date Due ( March 22, 2010)
LIBS 902 or 951
Introduction
Women who choose their own stress reducers succeed in also reducing their insomnia, digestive problems, headaches and obesity.
I Insomnia
A Before scented baths she was an aromatherapy skeptic.
B After hearing results she was motivated to use scented baths.
C Uses Scented herbs and products in her work and home.

II Digestive Problems
A Before taking yoga classes she had an enflamed disk and couldn’t get out of the house or even the bathtub.
B After taking yoga classes she is motivated to start a school of yoga
C Owner of a yoga school in Harlem, New York.
III Headaches
A Before using Aromatherapy the use of aspirin or oversleeping worsened symptoms.
B After using Aromatherapy… motivated to own a collection of dried flowers and herb.
C Invests her time in aromatherapy as an outside interest and daily routine.
IV Obesity
A Before joining Jenny Craig, she started a walking program for exercise.
B A month after Jenny Craig she started running as a regular form of exercise.
C Running is part of her everyday lifestyle.
Insomnia
Jenny had her doubts that scented baths could reduce her stress levels enough to allow her to shut her eyes and shut everything else out of her mind, but she read about it in a magazine called Prevention. She tried the scented baths once and made this a routine before bed.
Jenny now was able to shut down the computer, heavy reading and work case loads, too. The end result was a better night’s sleep and new thoughts about using scents around her for a positive environment. She uses them in the office to reduce moments of stress, and this is gaining her confidence to shut things down at night.
Jenny will advertise her successes in her florist newsletter, intending to reach many people who are skeptics about using natural remedies in reducing stress and illness.
Digestive Problems
Gina had digestive problems during the daytime and this lasted into the night, but she had no idea of what was causing this in her diet. She read a fitness article on how better posture and breathing techniques formed better digestion in the stomach when eating, and had remembered about similar yoga techniques she used for her nursing program.
She started taking classes and found it so helpful that she asked to join in on as a coach. Gina now has her own school of yoga in Harlem, New York. She loves the company she owns and her students love her enthusiasm. Her physical form is better now that she is using low intensity work outs, ensuring her a lifestyle of fitness and success.
Gina is hopeful to start mentoring programs in schools that use yoga as the cornerstone to good health and hygiene.
Headaches
Jackie was not getting the quiet she needed to settle down before bedtime and needed to take care or her own schedule. She was skeptical of using any over the counter products before using aromatherapy for her insomnia. Sometimes she would use of aspirin to calm tension and would or oversleep, worsening other symptoms. She heard about using aromatherapy in Prevention Magazine and as a florist appreciated this idea, and was now motivated to try it out
Jackie now has her own collection of dried flowers and herbs she has grown in her garden and uses these in several brews throughout her daily routine of flower arranging. Jackie now invests her time in aromatherapy in her daily routine, while oversleeping has been a thing of the past. She wakes up refreshed and less stressed out.
Jackie has the ability to control her schedule and has put her bad habits behind her from oversleeping to putting her needs last.
Obesity
Lisa had hated exercise by just hearing the word, routine, but not long after she heard it through the Jenny Craig program. She heard about Jenny Craig in a Prevention Magazine article. Lisa had joined many clubs before getting her Jenny Craig referral, but had not stayed in any programs long enough for her own success.
Lisa joined the Jenny Craig program in October of 2009 and now in 2010 is on her way from walking to running a mile a day. She looks forward to the outdoors and closeness with nature. Nothing is so bad about routine, other than the fact that she can’t stop this routine. Her weight is down, enabling her to run more comfortably and without stressing her joints or muscles.
Lisa ran her first marathon in 2010 and plans to run similar and longer marathons next year.
Conclusion
Self-determination among four women who want to reduce ailments such as insomnia, digestive problems, headaches and obesity is successful with first reducing stress, in a study by Prevention Magazine (Mahoney. NP. 2007). The women incorporated scented baths, aromatherapy, yoga and running into their lifestyle and effectively reduced their sleeplessness, digestive problems, headaches and obesity. They added more of the therapy and exercise to their good habit forming lifestyle choosing to shut out the negativity and stress due to poor sleeping conditions, lack of exercise or relaxed breathing. The women are further in their routine and healthy lifestyles and have not reported instances of their ailments.
.
References
Mahoney, Sara. (2007). Expert Q and A.
