We have integrated blogs into the overall work of the library to point where we may have too many blogs integrated into library homepage
- When click on the blog roll, taken to a page with all of our blogs that show a brief description and part of the first post. If click on Read on >
It takes you to the blog’s page. for this blog I use Blogger because at that time it was the only blog platform that easily would integrate slidedecks (Wordpress was clunkier) have been some great improvements in blogger since became a google product blog is for all kinds of announcements: Census releases, changes in our major numeric data sources, place to put presentation slides after a class Also do ICPSR announcements. To the right you see an example. I do use their text from their announcements because I want to preserve the original information.
You can see that the ICPSR announcements are pretty popular. I do try to use catchy titles to entice people. ICPSR has new goodies for you post = 200 hitsThe post was new data sources; nothing spectacular; just posted as a test to see if the blog was still on the homepage blog roll
Also send blog out through Twitter feed I use personal; Amy West uses a professional feed in which she sends out similar types of info Also is connected to facebook useful because so many library colleagues (who don’t have data libs or icpsr) are my friends; able to get the word out to the lib comm and not just the G Twitterfeed is the connector
Reference interns work about 75 hours/week at our desk. We try to keep them current on a variety of sources as part of their internship numeric resources is one class in the first semester
Sesssion starts out with basic statistical literacy introduction Then talk about resources incl ICPSR give them exercise they must do using these sources
