1. My zoo Task – Pick three sea animals for my new zoo.
2. Blue Whale Blue whales can eat lots of krill because they are Baleen Whales. Baleen Whales have teeth that look a lot like bristles and can take a huge gulp of krill while swimming. Krill are 2.5 inches long and very fast swimmers. The blue whale is the largest animal in the world. Adult blue whales can weigh 130 tonnes. Females jump higher than the male whale. Blue Whales can travel 350ft under water and can eat lots of krill at that pressure.
3. Sea Snakes Sea snakes are ocean reptiles. Like every other reptile they have scales, breathe air, lay eggs and they can’t control their body temperature. Sea snakes shed their skin every few weeks. Sea snakes have very long bodies that can reach 2 metres in length. Sea snakes are 2-10 times more venomous than cobras. While their venom is used to capture prey it is really used in defence. Sea snakes swallow their food whole. There are more than 50 types of sea snakes in the world 38 species of these can be found in warm water in Northern Australia.
4. Dolphin A dolphin has a dorsal fin. Dolphins have little teeth. They don’t chew their prey they swallow them whole. Dolphins talk to each other by making lots of noises like whistling, wailing, clicking and barking. Dolphins have feelings. Bottle nose dolphins can eat crabs. Bottle nose dolphins can go down the size of one football field. Dusky dolphins are friendly with a playful attitude. They like to happily swim and leap. Dusky Dolphins can leap five metres into the air. Dolphins can stay under water for more than seven minutes if they are feeding on prey or if there is danger.
5. Why I chose these animals Blue Whale-I chose the blue whale because they are the largest animal in the world. Therefore they are amazing to see Sea snakes-I chose the sea snake they can’t go on land and they have flat tails. It’s unusual to see a snake in the water. They use their tail to move in the water. Dolphins-I chose the dolphins because they are playful, cute and cuddly. I have cuddled one before and they are wonderful. They are very clever animals that can learn difficult tricks.
