2. This CD cover works because all the aspects
describe the music, the genre is Hip Hop
which can be very dark but is about truth,
on the cover there is a photograph of
Marshal/Eminem chained up in a jumpsuit
outside some doors looking insane, this is
because the publics reaction to his first
album was that they thought he was insane
as he rapped about things that
previously no one would dare rap or even talk about. The photo is in black and
white which suggests as well as the photography that it is a very dark album but
also integrates with the text, the text being thick and masculine compared to the
text you find on female artists album covers. Also there is a backwards E in the
name Eminem maybe again referring to insanity, overall the cover describes the
music and the feelings of the artist, the music being dark and a bit crazy, and the
artist telling his story and being criticized for it, therefor perhaps feeling crazy.
3. Rihanna’s Talk That Talk album
cover is just a middle finger to the
social norm, the cover is a
photograph of Rihanna doing a
very rebellious and almost dirty
pose, again like Eminem
representing her music in this
album, rebellious and sexy. In her
words she did this because the
album is about not caring, doing
and saying what you want because
you are your own person. Her logo
is filled with words from the songs
and the title of the album is in a
thin/feminine font portrayed as a
tattoo on her right rist which can
be seen as ‘badass’ along with the
red lipstick and numerous rings
she is wearing. Along with the
attention grabbing pose, the
colours catch attention too.
4. This cover some people (usually the ones not
accustomed to hip hop) find offensive or
disturbing as it features a baby with a suit on
and tattoo’s, presumably lil wayne as they are
his tattoos. Some may feel this takes away the
baby’s innocence but what I think it shows is
that sooner or later we all see or become part
of this corrupt way of life no matter how
innocent you are. Also lil wayne was actually brought into that life from a young age
so he is putting a image to the story he tells in his album which is usually what hip
hop artists are about, telling there story. The font isn't exactly masculine but is very
eyrie and is coloured red which could suggest blood or violence which then in turn
makes it seem more masculine, therefor compensating for the thinness of the words.
There is no background either, just the black which makes you focus on the baby, it
being the most important thing on the cover as it is a vital sign in what the album
entails.
