2. Target audience The target audience I have chosen for my film trailer is 15-25 year olds. I have chosen this age range as national statistics show that they attend the cinema more than other age groups. Another reason for having 15-25 year olds as my target audience is that I am in this age range and therefore it is easier for me to gather research from people in this age range as I know more people from this age range than other age ranges that will be willing to participate in the selection of a movie genre and giving feedback on the trailer that I shall be constructing. Here is an image of the target audience i have chosen for my film.
3. Socio-economic group With reference to the Jicnar scale I would make my trailer to be aimed at people in the C2 or Dcategory. This is because the young audience are mainly students or are in starter careers andwould therefore be skilled or partially unskilled manual workers
4. BBFC certification Suitable only for 15 years and over No one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work. Discrimination The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory language or behaviour. Drugs Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example, aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable. Horror Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised. Imitable behaviour Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised. Theme No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is appropriate for 15 year olds. Violence Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.
5. Target audience questionnaire I have devised a questionnaire that I will give to 20 people in the age range I have selected to complete. I will then compile and analyse the results in order to decide certain characteristics for my own trailer.
21. 2 minutes or longer Here is a sample of the questionnaires I included in the questionnaire.
22. Results- Question one The results show that most people that I questioned were aged 15-17. as this age group is pre-adult, this may affect the choice of movies that they are more interested in. As the people questioned were all above fifteen, this works well with my choosing of certification for my film being a 15.
23. Results- Question two When giving out my questionnaire I made sure I gave it to 1 females and 10 males so that the overall result wasn’t biased. I was then able to get results from a males and a females point of view, and that the results I got were even.
24. Results- Question three The purpose of this question was to identify what genre the target audience preferred. The results show that horror had the highest results. I shall take this into consideration when making my own movie trailer as I would like to create a trailer in a genre that my target audience like.
25. Results- Question four This question is important in order to discover what aspects of a movie trailer my target audience think are the most important. The results show that the aspect most important in making a trailer successful was an introduction of the storyline. This may be because people will decide whether or not they are interested in watching the whole film if the storyline is on that appeals to them.
26. Results- Question five Most people decided that a suitable length for the trailer was between 1 minute to 1 minute 30 seconds. The other choices were deemed unsuitable as anything less that 1 minute would be too short to get a n understanding of the movie and anything more that 2 minutes would make people lose interest or give away too much of the plot.
